Anyone use Shimano Ultegras? Can't Post

I start my official training plan for the Spirit of Racine in two weeks and I'm looking to get my bike all set to go. I have a pretty cheap road bike that I'm looking to put some pedals on. I went down to one of the local bike shops here in Madison yesterday looking for some pedals. I told the guy I didn't want to spend too much money, but I wanted something good, and he recommended the Ultegras. Anyone have any experience with these - good or bad? I would appreciate any thoughts on the pedals. Thanks.

Dan

I don't use ultergas, but here is a steal of a deal on pedals:

And sierra trading post is a good company. I have bought dozens of items from them.

I use ultegra pedals. They are very good, easy to clip in and out, and provide a good platform. It also allows some floating (3 degrees or fixed) which helped me to relief my knees.

The only downside is that the cleat has some hard plastic part that wears off very quickly if you walk around in your cycling shoes.

The latest model for 2005 is a redsigned version upgraded to match the new Ultegra 10sp hue. But it also has better clearance for improved cornering over the previous model.

I think that they are better than the Dura Ace model, as they are slightly heavier, but significantly cheaper.

I have the Dura Ace version on two bikes. Great pedals. I bought them new in the box on ebay for a very good price.

The Ultegra is the same pedal with slightly different bearings. You'll love them.

your LBS did you good with the recommendation. do them good with the purchase there. i've ridden ultegras for 9 years and recommend them highly.

and in all deference to (the other) Jim and Sierra, stick with your LBS. you will need more ideas, recommendations, and guidance, down the road. if you stay loyal to your LBS and bring some friends and neighbors in also, you will see returns down the road which may be immeasurable.

I switched from Look to Ultegra pedals 2 months ago. No squeaking! Smooth entry and exit! Nice solid feel to the pedal. Lighter than my old Looks (396's) and the cleats are nicer and longer lasting. I haven't "looked" back, nyuck nyuck.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I was given some good advice. I definitely plan on buying the pedals from the LBS. The guy I talked to was super helpful and didn't try to push any $200 pedals on me when he knew I was looking for something good but not too expensive. I'm also planning on getting a fit done so I plan on rewarding the LBS for the good service. Plus the price for the pedals at the LBS ($125) is cheaper than I've seen on Nashbar or Performance, so that's another reason to go with the LBS. Thanks all.
