At no point did I think TriCal was trying to trick me into thinking their new race is the EFA. But then again, I can read. From an email I rec'd from Terry Davis, as someone who has participated in TriCal events:

First of all, I want to announce, if you have not already heard through the internet, Tri-California is going to produce our own Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday August 29, 2010. We are no longer race directing the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.

Nothing tricky there.

So, TriCal is copying the Escape from Alcatraz course (including the sand stairway)?

Actually I believe the course is slightly different. The swim exit is moved and the transition area relocated to eliminate the most of the run to T1. Also the bike course is lengthened to make the course an Olympic distance course. It does, however, include the sand ladder.

I know Terry Davis and he is not the kind of person who would deceive anyone. It goes against his personal values and sense of business ethics. I am piecing together the whole story and what prompted IMG Worldwide's webpage announcement.

It was a little confusing at first. Hope this doesn't destroy some of the "pristigue" of this race. Did it this past year for the first time and was the most fun race I've ever done. I'm assuming there are politics involved, but it would be nice to keep the race the same for "tradition" sake. oh well

The race was a blast last year (a perfect day). I'll wait a couple of years before I do it again.

Too bad...it was an awesome race.

I just checked the Escape from Alcatraz website and they have changed the wording of their announcement. Gone are the words about deception and instead the Alcatraz Triathlon is referred to as an imitation.

Also gone is the bold red lettering.

Will this be the end or are things just getting started?
