5430 results?
Can't Post
They are not up yet on the homepage. Anywhere else I should look them up? I have some pals racing and wanted to check it out.
Any other info (course conditions, weather, etc)?

The temp was really nice. low to mid 70's, low to no wind and pt. cloudy. Simon Thompson won the mens pro field in a time of 3:50. He was about 6-7th off the bike I believe and chased down everyone and ran a 1:11:59 half. He won by about a minute. Joanna Zeiger won the womans in a time of around 4:17.

Wow that's smoking fast. I thought it might go fast today because the weather was great. Usually the run is pretty hot. I was running earlier today in Golden and looked up that way at the nice overcast conditions. Heck I have leaves starting to change already in my back yard!

I think that's the drought and not autumn approaching. :)

Yeah you could be right about that. It's amazing how little it has rained west of 25 this summer. I'm keeping a close eye on those cottonwoods though because they are usually the first to go after I see a football. ;)
(On a completely unrelated note, which 14er is that pic on your website in the colorado section?)

I think Joanna is only underrated by those who limit their vision to Hawaii. She's raced at the top of the game for more than a decade, and across multiple distances.
We decided to focus on 70.3 this season and do things a bit differently with regard to her training. With wins at Eagleman, Vineman and now 5430, a 2nd at Buffalo Springs and a pair of 4ths at the Olympic Trials and Lifetime, things are going really well. Joanna is hungry, and her hard work is really paying off. Hats off to her.

oh I agre- I think that since she doesn't ride a hot bike or wheels and is not one of the new younguns she doesn't get written up a lot. Good for her - is the new goal Clearwater since she didn't make it to Beijing ?

I don't mean to hijack this thread...But I was there today.
The weather was the best of any race I have ever been in.
When my heat goes off, I run into the water and BAM!...I step on a huge rock and a very sharp pain radiates through my foot. I was worried about it during the whole swim. It hurt and I couldn't stop thinking what was wrong and how bad was it. When I exited the water, I had to limp / skip to T1 because the pain was insane. I knew something was really wrong. So I paused in T1 a couple minutes. Even though it hurt like hell, I figued I could still bike and MAYBE, it would fix it's self during the bike. So I smoked the bike (for me) to a 12 min PR on the bike and although I knew it the foot was wrecked, convinced myself over the last 10 miles I was going to go for it on the run. Got to T2, top and bottom of foot around the metatarsals is red and black, toes are pointed in crazy directions and 50 yards into the run...It was just impossible. The pain was unreal. So I freaking DNF'd and went to the med tent. They think I cracked a toe and broke a metatarsal...sounds bad? At a minimum, it rules out a near-term marathon.
So this is my last race of the year, I'm about 8 beers deep as I type this....and I drove in from Kansas for the event. I get to be X-rayed tomorrow....yippee. My foot is swollen like crazy despite 5 hours of ice.
Ohh well....stuff happens. I really wanted to crack 5 hrs today and I was in position with a bit of buffer to boot. SUX!

We've got a few things cooking with her, but 70.3 Worlds is certainly on the short list :-)

It's always difficult to start working with an elite athlete who has had as much success as Jo has. There is a fine balance to be struck between "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and "I see x, y and z that ought to be addressed." We made a number of changes this season that have resulted in major improvements, as evidenced by her PR's :-)

I'll be up HIGH for a week late August/Early September. I'm not expecting the Aspens to have even started turning. Late Spring and wet season up high will have them green well into September. FWIW as of 9/15 last year Aspens at the treeline were still green. But yeah... the tips of the cottonwoods are the first thing down here to say... HEY!!!! :)

the one where it looks like I am nearly at the top with snow in the foreground?
That's south arapahoe peak... actually a 13er... but still SUPER hard for the last thousand. Did that a few days after getting back from Kona in October. AWESOME hike. :)

She was also very cool the day before, she helped out at the kids race and was very kind to my daughter who decided she needs a bike like her, you know, once she gets off training wheels. Glad to see her do so well.

Quick note: Both Champions of the 5430 Long Course - Joanna Z. and Simon Thompson - cam to the Boulder Kids Triathlon the morning before the race, and spent 2 hours with close to 500 kids, cheering them on, signing autographs, and otherwise inspiring them all. The good karma certainly caught up with these 2 great Champions just 24 hours later.

In my line of work, there is nothing more refreshing than pro athletes who are class acts and give back to the sport in this way. I lecture on endurance training to athletic training students at a local university, and Joanna was in town to do some physiological testing with me. She gave an impromptu talk to my students on training, and then invited them into the lab to hang out while we had her in the flume pool. They still talk about it :-)

I'd be remiss in also noting that Will Ronco (who post here) also helped out immensely at the Kids Tri the day before, but did not have the same karma on Sunday. Illness beset him; however, to be honest, the smile and spirit hasn't left him for a minute since he blasted IMLP and secured his spot at the Big One in Kona.
