I realized that you can't see the spreadsheet unless Rycase adds you to the list, so here is a list of all those parcipating with their point totals.
We have a few more weeks, let's see if everyone can post at least 2 points!

Thanks for updating the scores. What I would really like to tally at the end, is how many miles of commuting we have a as a group. I am at 433 miles right now, planning on going over 600.

With only two weeks left in the challenge, here are the updated points. Can drackliffe take the silver from Frasertri with only a 10 point deficit? Or will Frasertri bust his ass to take the gold away from cvillatri? Maybe drackliffe is on vacation and Hickory will take the bronze. Stay tuned.

1. cvillatri 246
2. drackliffe 185
3. Frasetri 173
4. tim-mech 162

I don't think anyone is going to catch cvillatri but it is pretty close between 2nd and 3rd and 3rd and 4th.

I didn't realise there was an official spreadsheet, I should put my figures in there to make sure I'm socring the same way as my records indicate a score of 297 with 1485 miles (despite a trip to fiji taking 6 days of commuting).

edit (I was confused by the statement that there was one week to go so earlier calc was incorrect)

Re: Updated with Points leaders! Re: 100 day Commuter Training Challenge [fitzie] [In reply to] Can't Post

Just adjusted my score thus far.
Looks like I have moved up quite a bit.
Gonna show how I add up my score so to see if I'm doing it right
Each week is:
2pts for round trip x 5 day = 10
5pts for commuting everyday that week = 5
3pts for commuting 30 miles each week, 30miles/1pt per mile = 3
So 10 + 5 + 3 = 18pts/week
Hope I got this right

Must be time to have an equipment parade

Silver BB tool bottle has tools in, Black one is my lunch
Sks Raceblades were a great purchase amny years ago, topeak now make a good mimicry which I have on another bike
Topeak Moonshine HID lamp to blind the idi... sorry, drivers.
THe funny clamp at the base of the seatpost is for a topeak dynapack (http://www.topeak.com/...cts/Bags/DynaPackDX) to take clothes in at the start of the week
Carbon wheels were on for the first half of the challenge, now 30mm alloy with bladed spokes - need to get home fast ;-)
It's been the worst winter I can remember here and it's been impossible to keep the drivetrain quiet.
The bike will look even better in a couple of days with an SRM on...

That is my work vehicle, I only own the add-ons.
The commuter I built for myself is a 1970s (older than me) Condor 531 singlespeed with SKS full mudguards. Very nice to ride with 28mm balloon tyres.

Thanks.

How good/bad/average are they
(I understand they are not as good as the "real deal" since they do not cover as much as regular ones) ?

I am thinking of ordering a pair for my road/commute bike.

Thanks.
Fred.

For clip ons I prefer the Topeak R1/R2 pair - the attachment is a bit nicer and more secure (plus it is hard to get sks in this end of the world). the sks have served me very well though and I have no complaints.
You still get the back of your legs wet and a bit more spray up from the front (than full mudguards) but the reduction in shoe filling and grit in your shorts is very noticeable (though it's been a long time since I rode in the rain without a mudguard so it's more a case of noticing the absence rather than being aware of their presence). The comfort improvement is well worth the $

Thanks for the info.
Since I can get a good deal on the SKS @ probikekit, I will go with the SKS then.

Fred.

Re: 100 day Commuter Training Challenge; Final rules are up. [fitzie] [In reply to] Can't Post

Would I be too much of a dick if I entered this thing with less than two weeks left? I know it kind of defeats the purpose of following everyone's progrsss all summer if I join now. Sorry, I guess I've been lax in my Slowtwitch reading and I just noticed this thing. Before you answer, you should know that my training log lets me calculate that I'm at 243 points as of my commute home today (52 commutes with a 23 mile round trip, plus 4 bonus weeks). I'll email Rycase to get on the spreadsheet if this is ok.

Hey Steve, this is Triyoda's challenge, so I can only recommend to him that you be allowed in with 2 weeks remaining. I hope those long commutes allow you some peace of mind after the ordeal that you and your family went through a few years ago. As a father I can't imagine your pain, but I hope you are coping well. This link was on your profile, and no, I did not forget the entire thing, and just posted it on this thread if you don't mind:

Dev, I don't mind that you put up the link. Today it's been two years since it all started. I'm coping well and the commuting and training for Kona are part of it. I told a reporter that asked me a couple weeks ago if training helps that I often think of the line in Hotel California "some dance to remember, some dance to forget." Long hours by yourself commuting or training leaves a lot of time for both.
