fatigue Can't Post

Hi
For more than a week I have felt like total crap. Im so tired all the time. I'm sleeping nearly 9.5 hours a day and Im still tired which I think is crazy!

My training has not increased. Maybe 2 hours more per week than before when I felt great. But now my legs feel dead all day.

And Im making mistakes at work that I dont normally do. Im a scientist and everyday I've been making big mistakes in my experiments that are now costing me a lot of time and more energy (that I feel like I dont have) in order to correct.

Any ideas about whats wrong with me? This happen to anyone else? With no change in my training or eating habits, I cant put my finger on it.

As a scientist you know the answer, go see a doctor, and have them do the appropriate tests....it sometimes just helps to hear someone encourage you to do the right thing...I hope you feel better soon

I work with several newbies. When one of them tells me she is sooo tired she can barely get up in the morning. The first thing I ask is... how busy is your work/home/family life right now. Overtraining??? Your training may not increase much but how is the rest of your life. Is your work schedule more hectic or stressful than in past weeks? Is your home/family life more stressful or hectic? I agree with the medical tests but also look at the other aspects of your life. The body does not know the difference between work/family/training stress. Take 48 hours to rest/catch up/ see a doctor and evaluate your training schedule.

hypothyroidism was my issue. Am still getting it straightened out: another TSH test next Friday.

And not eating enough calories recently-- YAY I get to eat more!

What others have said and also look into your iron intake.

In addition to seeing a doctor and having a battery of tests run, I'd recommend cutting back your training load as well. Not stopping entirely, as that could make you feel like shit too - but maybe cut out the long/hard workouts on the bike and run especially. You didn't mention how many hours per week you're currently doing, but dropping that number by 2-4hrs/wk won't hurt your fitness - however it could have a significant impact on your energy levels.

It could be the training, but if you are talking about extreme fatigue which is what has hit me in the past 3 months, then it could be the thyroid. I am seeing a specialist next week and hope to get some answers. It won't hurt you to have it checked out.

Ditto on the checking for iron deficiency.

Re: fatigue [slink] [In reply to] Can't Post

I've recently been going through the same thing. I'm training for IMFL and finally just got to the point where I'm just totally exhausted (and shouldn't be on this level of training right now). All I wanted to do is sleep and then I never feel rested.

I finally went to the doctor and he ran a bunch of tests. Turns out I'm moderately severely anemic and have a vitamin B12 deficiency. I think I'm the only person who's happy to hear that--LOL! Cuz, now that can be fixed. So, my doc gave me a vitamin B12 shot and has put me on some supplements-including a ton of iron. It's only been a couple of days and I don't feel 100% normal yet but I can already tell a difference.

So, it's probably worth a trip to the doc!

Good luck!

Re: fatigue [slink] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd look into thyroid problems too- I found that when I was training hard my thyroid would easily get impacted and would take about 3 months to settle down. Get it checked out- A call to a doc seems an appropriate move.

I wish you luck and keep us posted.
