What are you training for next? Can't Post

In an attempt to start talking triathlon/running/cycling/swimming/whatever again, tell us what you're training for and what are your upcoming big races. It's coming to the end of the season for many of us in NA. What's on your schedule for the rest of the year and what are you looking forward to next year?

For me, I feel like I talk about it endlessly sometimes, but I'm training for American Zofingen long course (5mile/85mile/15mile duathlon). Not well trained for it and it's going to be a purely survival day for me. Hoping to go sub-11, but I'll really just be happy to finish and not have Tetsuoni dragged me off the course because he wants to go to bed.

I was also going to do a marathon this fall, but decided to skip that since I'm not fast enough to go sub-4 yet. Maybe next year. I might do a half marathon if I can recover from AmZof quickly.

Next year, I'm getting back to my favorite distance - half ironman.

I tentativly have a marathon at the end of November, depends on how my training is going. From there, another marathon in February, a 50k in March, a 100 miler in April, not sure what will happen after that.

I took this year off of competitions because of burnout from training for IM Lou last year. However, my sister has never done a half IM and managed to talk me into doing the Prairieman Half with her, which is this weekend. After that, I have the Sunmart 50K trail run in December, and the Houston Marathon in January. My goal for 2009 is to get back into the half IM distance and do several of them, and try to place top 3 in my age group in the local races.

When is the Zofingen race? Sounds fun! In a torturous kinda way :)

I have the Muskoka 70.3 race on Sept 14th to get through. Am looking forward to it. Just did the Canadian Half IM AquaBike where I lucked out and placed well for me!

Then the Prince Edward County (Picton) Half Marathon on Oct 5th.

After that, a well earned break from training.

Haven't really looked at 2009, other then Run For The Toad in late sept/early Oct. GREAT race.

Re: What are you training for next? [DawnT] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm leaving tomorrow for the Marathon du Medoc. I'm only doing the half marathon which is good because I developed ITBS two weeks ago. I'm hoping the wine at the aid stations will fortify me. Most runners wear costumes and I'll be in a black running dress, white arm coolers, a tiara and pearls.

I then come home and do the Nation's tri on the 14th, another sprint tri Oct 4th, Army Ten Miler on the 5th, the Beach 2 Battleship half iron distance on Nov 1st, and end the season with a short course duathlon mid-Nov.

I have a lot of my season left which is why I'm freaking a little bit about my injury!

Zofingen is October 12th in New Paltz, New York. They have short and long course options. More info at: http://www.americanzofingen.racesonline.com/

I'm still planning on renting a house and (hopefully) sharing it with some ST'ers. If anyone else is headed there, check out my other thread on the Ladies of ST Training Weekend.

We definitely need a picture of that posted when you're back. Have fun!

Hmmm.. I have an OLY on the 14th (Black Diamond), then AmZof sprint/training weekend, then a late half-marathon or I might hit the XC circuit... but, I signed up for IMC 2009 yesterday, so I guess that's the big thing for next year.

Mentally I'm ready for the season to be over....a bit burned out after IMLP. I have a few more races: Reston Tri Sep 7; MS 150 Bike to Bay and Army 10 miler. I think my off-season training needs to involve anything but swimming, biking & running.

Marathon on 9/13, cyclocross season starts 9/20 and goes until december. May or may not do another marathon on 1/18 in AZ, might think about doing flying pig in cincinati in May 09.

Also training for Thanksgiving and Christmas eating (in other words, training so that I can eat some of that stuff, ha ha ha)

Re: What are you training for next? [DawnT] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm going to Tahoe for xterra Nationals. I've put this off for years, because I'm terrified of raicng at altitude. But I finally decided to give it a try this year. Still terrified, but how do you know if you never try.

I've also finally come to the realization that ironman is not for me. I truly do not have the mental toughness for it. I've been trying to convinve myself for years to try it again, but its taken me some time to realize its not for me. And I'm so relieved that I finally figured it out! Now I can do the things I really enjoy, and really work on improving those - xterra, mtb races, OLY and the occasional half IM.

I'd also like to have a healthy injury free winter. And my plan for that is to not do runs longer than 90 minutes, and stay on the trails as much as possible ( not always easy in the dark winter months).

See you there!

I still have IMAZ left on my schedule for this year. My body aches from IMLOU on Sunday. Not a good trip, but still almost an hour faster than last year.

Re: What are you training for next? [DawnT] [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, my season is far from over, I have 2, maybe 3 BIG races left on the schedule:
* Oct 5: Xterra Nationals in Tahoe (hopefully I'll have a better race than in 06 (med tent))
* Oct 26: Xterra Worlds (if I qualify in Tahoe)
* Nov 23: Ironman Arizona

I'm not even thinking about next year....yet.

I do a local sprint in NJ this weekend, race on a relay the next, then AG Nationals in Oregon September 20. Then cross country and road races for the fall. And I may try a few swim meets for the first time ever.

Re: What are you training for next? [DawnT] [In reply to] Can't Post

With IMC08 less than two weeks in the past my focus has turned to marathons. I'm heading to San Fran in October for the Nike Women's marathon. It may take as long as my IMC marathon split. The goal isn't to go fast, it's to have fun and enjoy the environment. I'm doing it with a good friend of mine and she has no desire to run a marathon. Some how we decided to sign up for the slowest finishing time. We'll run when we feel like it, walk when we feel like it etc.

For a more serious goal, if I feel up to it, I'll be running the Seattle marathon at the end of November. The hotel has been booked for months but with a 24 hour cancellation I don't have to decide anything until the Saturday before the race.

But my biggest focus is getting ready to move to Melbourne, Australia in December for a one year teaching exchange.

Re: What are you training for next? [DawnT] [In reply to] Can't Post

my season hasn't started :-) after 1.5 yrs of recovery it will be good to be back out there and ST has helped to keep me excited (reading the rrs). Although I would have to say I am in training right now to learn how to walk again. Weights suck. I don't recommend them. Ever. Period.

Re: What are you training for next? [jenhs] [In reply to] Can't Post

It's highly likely that I'll be coming down to Seattle and more than likely I'll do the marathon too. I ran it last year and i've never been so nervous before an event as I was before the Seattle marathon. I think it was because it had been such a long time since I ran 26.2 m without the swim, and bike warm up.

We'll see how my fall running goes. I'm tired of running at a snails pace.

Re: What are you training for next? [jenhs] [In reply to] Can't Post

that's the obvious, but let's start with walking. Haven't done sissy squats in 10 yrs and built up to 600 of them the other night. Mother of God. Weight lifting is stupid. So yes, training right now for walking :-) and stuck on the couch tonight pulling sleep dep crap and out of reading material, think I'm going to go mad.
