Treadmill in Athletic Clothing store, would you use it? Can't Post

Hello Womens!

I have a quick question. I run an athletic wear store, catering mainly to women. It is a luxury brand with some really technical fabrics and fits.

We have some really cool and SUPPORTIVE bra's and tank tops. To showcase these, I was thinking of getting a used treadmill and having it in the store. If you were shopping for athletic wear and wanted to test the support. Would you use it?

Thanks!!

Jon

Yes, but I would want it at the back of the store where the change rooms are and have the option of closing a curtain around it.

Keep in mind, you run the risk of getting those nice items covered in sweat!

Only if I knew for sure the clothing I was trying was clean!

What are some ways you ladies test support in bras?

How can I help that process?

What can we provide?

Jump up and down in the change room. I love seeing feet leave the ground when I'm shopping. I know exactly what's going on in there! lol
I like to be left alone when shopping. Nothing more annoying, to me, than a salesperson (even if truly trying to be helpful) getting all up in my business.

Well, realistically, I'm not the person to ask. I don't try clothes on at a store. I buy, take home, try and then decide. If they fit I'll buy more, if they don't, i sometimes return, sometimes give away (depending on how lazy I am)

Absolute best bra shopping thing I've ever used is the bra size finder on bradiva.com: http://www.bradiva.com/size/index.html

It is owned by an ST gal: bdiva.

It has changed my bra size completely and now all running and daily bras are so much more comfortable. You sould send her a PM and get info on how she did it. Extremely useful.

Also take a look at how Title 9 does their bra section: http://www.titlenine.com/...EGORY&path=1%2C3

I think helping women first make sure they are wearing the right size then offering suggestions on which bra provides the most support for that size would be very helpful.

Maybe provide a jump rope for some test jumps? :-) Could be cute.

I've wasted a lot of money on sportsbras that just don't work for me. Very frustrating.

THanks for the tips!

We do have a jump rope we use in the store.

One of our early stores had a trampoline in the fitting room!
I'm sure there are liabilities these days :)

Yeah, I watch America's Funniest Home Videos. I stay away from trampolines.

I just realized I answered a question you didn't ask. Sorry, you didn't ask for the best way to sell bras...just if people would use a treadmill.

No on the treadmill because of the sweat issue.

I'd have to agree on the no answer for a treadmill, but kudos for thinking of ideas to help us.

Jump rope is a good idea!

How about having someone on staff who is trained (if that's possible) to measure women for correct sizing.

Or even once a month bring someone in and advertise it as a special event with some discounts.

Sorry, I'm not a business woman, I just pulled these out of my arse.

not a woman, but make sure you check the insurance side of things, some stores I know about around here had to get rid of their treadmills because their insurance company wouldn't have covered any injury resulting from its use (regardless of a user having signed a waiver)

Jump rope seems like a safer bet, but I would check that with your insurance co as well, as you don't want somebody to mis-step, fall down, hit their head and then sue you for everything under the sun.

as a retail owner as well i will share what we do.
we have 2 specialty running stores and a tri shop. at the running stores we offer free gait analysis with our shoes to see what is the correct shoe to buy. we have a great response to that and have done it for years. we video them and then show it back to them in the shoes they are currently wearing and a shoe that fits their specific biomechanics. they only run a few minutes so no one really works up too much of a sweat. have never used the treadmill to see if a bra is supportive though.

for our "bras" we have had a couple of "ladies bra fit" nights ( had one this week actually) our Moving Comfort rep comes in with a line of bras and goes over proper fit, she measures everyone and then they get to trying on bras. we had over 40 women on Thursday night. we have wine, snacks and a chocolate fountain with dippings. Everyone seems to really enjoy it and get the right bra fit! no men allowed because the women are running around with and without bras at times.

no where near. we are in Houston.
we try to have a ladies night every few months. its fun for me to meet and greet all the female athletes and it is a great experience for the women. we also do bikes and wetsuit nights for ladies only. maybe one of your local stores could start doing it as well. its great for business and great for the sport. and loads of fun.

Great idea regarding the Bra Fit night Jana.

We have a private label, but can bring in one of our designers or regional trainers to do that!

Fantastic.
