Re: Summer in the PNW??? [BarbBikeTechie] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm mostly a lurker but I have to come out and say.. this weather completely sucks!!!! I'm training for Lk Stevens too and I am dreading my brick on Sunday. I need to ride today and have no desire. I had my first bike crash Sunday (railroad tracks got me) and I must admit that I am a little afraid of the wet roads now. I can't blow off my training but I do not want to be on my bike in this weather (running no problem). I keep hoping that the forecast is wrong and the rain & cold won't last for 10 days but so far it has. UGH!

Re: Summer in the PNW??? [lilpups] [In reply to] Can't Post

Today is a gray, gray, gray day in Vancouver. That plus having a touch of post race blues (did a half IM on the weekend) and a cold is not making me a happy person.

I'm planning to watch ITU Worlds this weekend and I have to say I'd rather be doing a three hour ride in the rain than standing around soaking wet for four hours trying to figure out which people in team Canada kit are my clubmates. At least for the former I'm moving and staying warm.

I'm trying to find some sort of glass is half full comment about the weather but am too cranky to think of anything at the moment.

Re: Summer in the PNW??? [Alibabwa] [In reply to] Can't Post

I was supposed to get in my last long swim this morning in the lake but it was raining so hard I didn't even get out of bed. The temp was in the low 40s and I was supposed to be there at 6am. I'm going to connect with a friend over the weekend who did the exact same thing. At least we can do a mid-afternoon rain instead of an early morning rain.

Ugh.

A friend of mine has taken to calling the current month "June-uary."

Cold water is one thing but if it's coupled with cold air temps then it takes a long, long time to warm up.

Good luck with your swim this weekend!

The glass looks better on Sunday when you get to watch the Pro race!

True, but this year is particulary bad.

I like the June-uary. Perfect.

I usually just lurk, but I have to agree that this weather stinks. I've lived here nearly my whole life and I love the rain, but GOODNESS!! Seeing 48* at 1 p.m. today was depressing.

"June-uary" is indeed perfect.

Re: Summer in the PNW??? [Alibabwa] [In reply to] Can't Post

A quick trip to Whole Foods and now a body full of St. Johns Wort makes me a much nicer person. For those who don't know, St. Johns Wort is a supposed natural remedy for 'mood enhancement' - don't know if I totally buy into it but I have to say I'm feeling 110% better and plan to keep drugging myself until this weather passes.

And while Summer may not officially show up in the PNW until July 5th - it typically shows itself from time to time, giving us little peaks of what we have to expect in the weeks leading up to July. This relentless weather is agonizing.

But - and I say this with the St. Johns Wort coursing full power through my body - here are the two positives I've figured out to this weather:
1. my garden has seriously never looked better. Overgrown and out of control b/c it won't stop raining long enough to go out and mow - but healthy and green!
2. this weather gives me an excuse to continue eating like it's january - that means the cookies I just baked and the caramel popcorn I'm about to make are actually vital calories to help keep me warm

Re: Summer in the PNW??? [lilpups] [In reply to] Can't Post

My diet this week has been HORRIBLE! I've put on a pound :-(. I can't stop eating sugar. I actually got a Snickers bar out of the vending machine at work. I NEVER do that! I had to bag out on my run after 45 minutes because I felt so sick. It isn't just sugar, I've been eating everything in sight. Maybe I should try the St. John's Wart. Two weeks before CdA is not the time to let my diet go to shit. Ugh.

I just walked outside to go to a local 10k race and walked back inside. It is pouring rain and 45 degrees. F**k that!! My treadmill will get a workout today.

Re: Summer in the PNW??? [lilpups] [In reply to] Can't Post

I saw that too. I think it was 1894. Jeez. It is dumping rain then the sun is coming out and the wind kicks up. Totally nuts.

Seriously, my eating is out of control and the weather is really messing with my training.

I am on the verge of crying because I want a very hot, sunny week where I can't sleep because I'm sweating. That sounds sooooo good right now. I wonder if we will even get one of those this year.

:-(

Weather is all I can think about anymore. Lake temp, air temp, sun, rain....what's going on right NOW and has the forecast changed at all?? Every morning I wake up hopeful for a nice day and every morning I get let down. For a heat and sun lover this really is hell.

I feel you, sister! We are definitely not alone, everywhere I go people are talking about the weather. (Of course, at least down here, people are OBSESSED with weather.) It would just be nice to get back to the place where everyone is complaining about how hot it is for a change!

I need to ride my bike tomorrow and I'm not happy about it!
