Lyme Disease... Can't Post

After almost 3 weeks of feeling like shit and then having all these strange symptoms this week I decided last night to go to the doc this AM.

I had been sick with a chest cold and that got better but then I started to have flu like symptoms (fever, aches, headaches). I took tylenol and I was fine, but w/in 8 hours it all came back. After 4 days of it I decided enough was enough (everyone was tired of hearing me whine and complain and everyone was URGING me to go see a doctor). I thought all the little symptoms were all unrelated and just that, little things, and were mostly stress related since I'd been sick and injured and my stress management plan is running.

Pretty sure it was going to be a waste of time, I made a list of other things to ask the doc about. The crazy bruising (probably is from fish/krill oil), the strange numbess on one side of my body, I needed a refil of my albuterol prescription, needed my long term inhaler changed since it didn't do crap, and I had a crazy bug bite on my leg that has left a HUGE and rapidly spreading rash, I was out of my prednisone prescription tha

I'm cleared to train as much as I feel like. I did have a great day of running/swimming yesterday, but w/in 3 hours felt like I had the flu (tylenol had worn off) and that was the trigger for me to see a doc. Hopefully soon I'll be back to 100% healthy.

oops...was trying to edit and deleted some. Time to go to bed.

Wow - be very careful, lyme disease (as I'm sure you know) can have prolonged effects in some patients. Be sure to cut yourself the slack necessary to not train on days you just don't feel like it (rather than just HTFU) so that this doesn't turn into some chronic.

Speedy recovery!

Yeah, I have another friend who got lyme recently.

Now I'm spraying the Avon Skin So Soft anti-tick/anti-mosquito spray on, every time I go trail running. (I can't stand Deet; this stuff doesn't smell bad or make your fingers go numb.)

Feel better!

Gah! I don't even know what to say... glad you went to the doctor finally though. Think you're still gonna do Lake Stevens, or just chill on the sidelines?

I'm still planning on doing lake stevens. Doc said the antibiotics should kick in and by early next week I should feel fine. But if not, you'll have a great support staff!

Holy crap! The year isn't even half done yet and you've had so many health-related ordeals!

I hope you get better quickly. Being sick sucks.

I have a friend who was also diagnosed with this. She has been training for and is going to do Placid with the goal to finish. She was going to see a specialist last week but I haven't heard back on how that went. I hope you get better soon.

I am sorry to hear of your condition and hope the best for you. I wanted to follow up because I was on my phone and it wasn't easy to type out a reply. My sister in-law suffered almost exactly the same symptoms. She later developed Fibromyalgia. My understanding is that doctors are still studying if Lyme disease has anything to do with an after result of developing Fibromyalgia. I just recommend that you are very careful.

We also discussed Fibromyalgia here.

Re: Lyme Disease... [GhiaGirl] [In reply to] Can't Post

I had lyme disease last summer. I believe that I was bit sometime in late april/early may and yet I managed to race through most of the summer (even went to Nationals and qualified for Worlds). As the season wore on I felt worse and worse. I struggled through every workout and the harder I trained the worse I felt. I kept thinking I was not training hard enough and just kept pushing. Finally I had neurological problems which forced me to the doctor and the diagnosis. Within a few days of taking antibiotics I started feeling better. I competed in an aquabike half IM (opted not to do the run) 2 weeks into the antibiotics and competed in the Age Group World Championships 2 days after I completed 3 weeks of antibiotics. Even though I felt better in a few days many of the symptoms endured for months. Even a year later when I am tired and rundown, some of my symptoms return. However, I am generally feeling well and hve been able to race and train strong. Good luck! This is a terrrible disease. Please make certain you are being treated by a doctor experienced in dealing with lyme disease. Many people believe that you are never fully cured but I have to say that I feel as though I am 99% cured.
