Dry, cracked lips - any suggestions? Can't Post

What do you all use for chapstick? My lips have been dry and chapped all summer, they're starting to crack at the corners... sooo annoying and painful, I've been using Blistex Lip Medex chapstick with no luck.

I remember having something like this when I was little and it was a vitamin deficiency that caused it but I can't remember what vitamin it was. Ideas from the medical people?

thanks - much love

if it is as the corners of your mouth it might be fungal. so lotrimin or one of the other antifungals that are over the counter will work at the corners.

as far as the dry chapped lip thing, I swear by the lip plumpers - lip fusion being my favorite. They work by attracting and holding moisture in place....so I use them for avoiding chapped lips.

so far so good.

When I was on Accutane I used tons of Aquaphor to keep my lips from splitting and took a vitamin E supplement. I really caked on the Aquaphor at night and it helped a lot.

Riboflavin deficiency can cause cheilosis(fissuring of the lips) and cracks in the corners of the mouth. YOu eat so well now so I don't know if you need to worry about that.???

I use a three step system I bought at CVS. It's called skin effects for lips (by Jeffrey Dover). First you exfoliate in step one, then it's step 2 and 3. It makes your lips so soft. I really love it!! I can't remember how much it was. You can also rub sugar on them to exfoliate and then wash them. Then put vaseline or a lip plumper on. I've used aquaphor as well. I always use sunscreen on my lips too.

When I was on Accutane (nasty stuff) I used Medicated Blistex lip ointment, it was not a chapstick. It came in a little white squeeze tube was more liquid than solid. Worked wonders for me.

Are you drinking lots of water? My lips immediately get dry when I'm dehydrated.

I avoid lip balm with sunscreen unless I"m in the sun as it seems to make my lips dryer. LOVE Aquaphor.

I was going to say B vitamins, too... I know when my lips were cracking like that, it was a b vitamin problem... nothing else helped.
