porsche panamera: ultimate tri-hatchback? Can't Post

i was thinkin of upgrading from a benz wagon to the panamera. i like the wagon-like storage and hatchback access. great aggressive alternative to the soccer-mom wagon i've been driving. thoughts?

Yeah, nothing like a $100K hatchback to piss your $$ away. I guess there are people who are actually that pretentious.

Instead you should just get a regular hatchback and then have a replica of your pay stub painted on the side of the car so everyone will still know you make more money than they do.

They have a nice silver Turbo at Zimbrick in Madison Wi....after options - $172k, and that was no ceramic breaks. For taht, I will take a GT3 and a Q8! Back seats were the best I have ever seen in any car the whole interior for that matter was just magical.

The Panamera and Cayenne have already both been axed by VW (the new Porsche management). They'll finish their current production runs, and disappear. To the relief of Porsche die-hards everywhere, VW has decided that the Porsche brand should be a sports car brand, not a sterile soccer-mom brand.

Got a 356, 914, and two 911s in my extended family - none mine, though.

I think it's incredibly ugly (rear half), but if the styling works for you...

Since no car guys answered you seriously, it is apparently one fast as hell 4-door with utility. I cannot believe how quick the turbo version is! Anyway, I haven't seen one in person yet, and wonder about space for a bike and gear. The interior is supposed to be amazing too.

I used to have an ML55 AMG SUV and that was relatively cheap thrills, although the current generation of speedy sport utes come with a lot more power, eg, the BMW X6M. I just think the X6 is kinda hideous and I am a BMW owner. I wouldn't mind having an X5 4.8 for tri duty, although I never thought the rear hatch on an X5 was very generous in size. For Panamera money I'd pick up a 911 bodied car AND a used BMW SUV.....

I've found I could use really any car except my convertible for triathlon, as long as I can fit my Yakima rack on top.

I have not driven it...but, sitting in it I dont get it. As a former owner I was sorta shocked as to how terrible rearward even compared to the GT3 spoiler. The rear hatch was really just a joke, for instance in my Audi my rear bumper has been torn up a bit from the pup going in and out and loading things. The Panamera has a high reach thru and will just piss off folks who wonder why they didnt just put in a trunk. The rear seats I do think fold down, but they are two bucket seats (so damn sweet). It also had the same POS sunroof "cover" that is really just a screen and does not block out the sun at all.

Now...the Mercedes E63 Saloon....plenty of space, plenty of power, AWD and just a tenth of a second slower than a Viper in the 1/4mi....if they only sent them here. Damn R Class!

I'm still jonesing to pick up an E55 cheap and tune it with help from my Kleeman buds in Colorado, but I have no rom in the garage and keep getting guilty feelings when I look at the twin turbo S4 in the garage that hardly gets driven....

The Panamera will not work. The rear seats do not fold down completely. There is a center section that stays in place. It would interfere in getting the bike placed in.

Those are rumors. A blog is not where I would get my news. And the current production run is 7 years, I would think VW would try to keep that news under wraps since that would hurt sales.

100 K for a sag wagon to take your tri bike to the local sprint tri is a bit over the top IMHO. Especially since it doesn't even come with an air cooled engine.

"Got a 356"

Owned two of them back in the late 70's to mid 80's when they were just considered old cars and not classics. Could kick myself for selling them.

I'm totally unimpressed with new Porsches. At one time they truly were a unique car company. Now they make over priced toys for over aged boys.

ahhh, it's good to see there are other car fanatics on slowtwitch. there's always gonna be 1 pissant like the second poster to rain on our parade. like most of you, i have a stable of sick cars to go with the bike quiver, so the panamera is just a bike/board hauler. didn't know that the middle part in the rear does not fold down. ..you sure? why would they make a hatchback with an obstacle to store shit in the back? i guess, a roof-rack would overcome that...

here's an awesome vid for all you porsche fanatics:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YssFS12jVUU

all the freakin porsche eye-candy you could ask for! i love how all the super-porsches peel off as if the panamera blows em all away. makes the panamera way more badass than it really is.....that....is great marketing. lol.

I saw one pull into a handicap parking spot outside of a Panera the other day. The driver and his wife both got their walkers out of the rear to proceed into the restaurant.

... so storage space must be good for the intended purchasers. The only thing missing was the bumper sticker - 'My other car is a PT Cruiser'.

Dude, if you have 18's OE on the M3 there is a brand new set of Pilot's that were OE tires sitting at Zimbrick Porsche (Audi/Mercedes/BMW) that they want $200 for the set of four...they are sitting in the waiting area.

No, I don't think he could. Actually he probably is fat and lives in his Mom's basement.
