It pains me to say it, but I fear Tibbs might be right about the hopeless state of American politics.
The Vice President shoots his hunting buddy and puts him in the hospital, and the Right says, "Hey, no big deal- I get shot by my hunting partners all the time. Why do you hate freedom?"
The Left is apparently convincing itself in real time that Cheney was in the midst of a drunken orgy at the time of the shooting, and is now colluding with the Evangelicals to cover it all up.
Surreal.

I will say that it seems every Senator or Politician being interviewed precludes their statements with "I was a hunter once"....makes me laugh that all of these hunters are coming out of the woodwork.

I said it earlier: if it wasn't for the Clinton Witchhunt (millions spent trying and ultimately proving that he got a little somethin' from an intern), you wouldn't see such glee over Cheney's misfortune.
The other reason for the glee over Cheney's issues are this: because GW is pretty much teflon; he can invade a country without any real intellegence proof and get away with it (aw shucks). The dems guy gets roasted for getting a BJ... people are grasping at straws (stones).

OK you finally understand ....Tibbs is the man.
But as an aside, I am a pinko, liberal, rainbow flag waving, peace monger, but I kind of think that it was an accident, and is not an important story.
The real story involves a pre determined war with Iraq, the collusion with corporate sleaze bags, the torture/detainment/illegal wiretapping polices, and the history of personal attacks on political opponents. What is a little bird shot between friends?

Those who like conspiracy theories might try this one on for size: Republicans are always being accused of being overly cozy with their contributors. Furthermore, Whittington has been an enthusiastic contributor to the Bush campaigns. Ergo, the Cheney shooting was a premeditated bid on the part of the Administration to distance themselves from their own contributors and therefore to improve their public image. ;)
