Things My Dogs Have Taught Me Can't Post

To pick up and throw a ball even if it is covered with slobber

To not take up more than my share of the bed.

To pet upon being nudged by a wet nose.

To keep the fringe on an oriental rug in perspective.

To nap whenever I feel like it.

To sob uncontrollably.

And you?

Your dogs have taught me nothing, damn them and their Monk-centric ways!

ps. I'd say they've also made you extra familiar with poop, because your political BS detector seems acute.

To greet our loved ones like it is the happiest moment of our day.

That food is still ok, even if it falls on the floor.

That the tone of our voice is more important than the actual words that come out of our mouths.

There is always time for a quick walk/run.

That vet bills are expensive!

That you do not need to say "I love you" to say I love you.

That the mutt is often the most noble of breeds.

That stretching on the floor is an invitation to play

Turning off the TV means it is time to pee

Yawns are spread interspecies

Cute looks = cookies

Coming home is a reason to celebrate

Love can be unconditional - and slobbery

To live life with joyful abandon.

To always enjoy the opportunity to stretch out in the sunshine and take a nap.

To recognize that each day is a gift.

To always take the time to sniff the roses, and the trees, and the ground, and the tires, and the...

To love, with no expectations.

Actually, my cat was responsible for the funniest thing i have ever witnessed:

He was walking along a curtain rail, looking very smug. He managed to slip on one of the rings and fell, started to do the weird body contortion mid air correction land on feet manoeuvre. Managed it so well he torpedoed face first into the computer table. Fell off that, repeated weird body contortion mid air correction land on feet manoeuvre, again, landed on face. By this point he was a bit disorientated, so he took a running jump at the glass door. It was the funniest 12 seconds of my life, if i had 3 wishes, one of them would be to have had a video camera to hand...

He has also tried to get a live seagull through a window about 2ft by 1ft.

The cat was fine for the record (as was the seagull)

That you don't have to be big, to act big.

Sometimes it's best to hide from seven 6 year olds.

Thunderstorms can be scary.

It only takes a little chicken to make dry kibble into something really special.

Life is best when the whole family is together.

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."

That we're all really looking for the same things in life...a warm bed, a full tummy, and the freedom to lick our own balls.

That really short memories are the root of forgiveness.

That no one looks stupid living life to its fullest.

Nothing is as good as a run with loved ones first thing in the morning

There is great joy in the little things - treats, dinner, a ball - so don't take any of it forgranted

A little love and consistency can go a very long way in erasing the bad memories of a shelter dog's previous abuse

No matter how stressed you as the human are, if you just take a few moments to pet a dog's head or rub it's belly for those few minutes all will be right with the world

A gastrotomy is fifteen hundred dollars.

Two gastrotomies are three thousand dollars.

Placing a small titanium plate where the cruciate ligament ruptured is three thousand dollars.

Placing two titanium plates where both cruciate ligaments blew is six thousand dollars.

Tuna fish for supper for a year or so is not a bad trade off for a happy pooch.

Wow. Now I am feeling guilty over thinking about euthanizing them rather than paying to have their teeth cleaned.

Don't feel bad, I couldn't afford to love my dog that much. Luckily our dog actually enjoys having his teeth brushed so we can skip the teeth cleaning.

If you divert me from my original bad deed and praise me enough every time I bring the sock to you I was going to eat...eventually I'll pick up all your laundry laying around and bring it to you :-)

selflessness: no matter how much i say no i still cave and go throw the frizbee
perspective: laying around all day really solves what ever problem exists.
self esteem: my farts don't smell nearly as bad.
envy: why can't i lick myself like that?
