The economy is improving thanks to Dick Cheney. Can't Post

Just thought there should be another thread as fucking stupid and asinine as YaHey's thread so he wouldn't feel so bad about how foolish he looks ...

I guess the one theory makes as much sense as the other.

Wasn't there another thread about how Obama owns the economy now?

Everytime Cheney shoots someone a hospital executive smiles somewhere. Kind of like that Jimmy Stewart movie don't you think?

Yeah, and that theory doesn't make much more sense than saying that Cheney owns it either.

I think that a president can do disastrous things which make an economy much worse, but his capacity as a single individual to make it better is very limited. Even if Obama had had a miraculous conversion to free-market thinking on the day he was inaugurated, he wouldn't have had a lot of power to implement his new ideas.

Although, come to think of it, if one could combine his rhetorical prowess with some good ideas....

Maybe there's a connection between the need for a teleprompter and the absence of the good ideas?

"Didin't Cheney shoot somebody?"

Of course, that's how he got the economy to improve. His shooting created more business for doctors, which in turn gave them more money to spend on consumer goods, etc., etc.. Just like in the Parable of the Broken Window. Dick Cheney, the ultimate Stimulus Package.

Sorry...it's Friday afternoon. ;)

This shooting is it considered trickle down economics then?

I think Dick Cheney is about the bottom of society's barrell, but there's something to be said for a guy that can shoot someone in the face, show complete indifference to the situation, and then have the victim actually apologize to him. Dick's done something right for himself ....

Actually, it's a great illustration of the Keynesian multiplier effect. ;)

Re: The economy is improving thanks to Dick Cheney. [Rob C in FL] [In reply to] Can't Post

I think that a president can do disastrous things which make an economy much worse, but his capacity as a single individual to make it better is very limited.

This is a concept that seems to be extremely difficult for people to grasp. Most seem to think they can fix teh problem(s) just as easily as they can break them. Doesn't work that way.

A policy created that is "Harmful" tot he economy forces people to follow those policies, there by almost instantly causing harm. Once those policies are over turned that does not mean everyone instantly goes back to doing what actually worked before the policy was instated.

In fact in some cases, for instance long term "Social policies" people become accustomed to those policy and actually loose the skills necessary to operate without them. In order to "Fix" the problem there is often a long term "Relearning" process that must take place.

So yes, bad policy can cause pretty dramatic and relatively quick harm, "Good policy" often times can not create the same effect in reverse.

Exactly. When it comes to economics, helping and harming aren't symmetrical.

"In fact in some cases, for instance long term 'Social policies' people become accustomed to those policy and actually loose the skills necessary to operate without them."

As an extreme example, consider how unprepared the Russian people were to cope with a relatively free market following the fall of communism--and how bewildered they felt in the new environment.
