Who do you think will go home tonight? (frustrating morning at work, I need a mental health break). I'm hoping that Tracy or Liz will go, but I think it may be Daniel.

What do you think?

My theory (with nothing really to back this) is that Tracy has been living on borrowed time. I cannot believe how much she has lost given her apparent lack of training relative to everyone else. Remember, she "lost" nearly 2 weeks when she was in the hospital. I am guessing that her metabolism is a couple weeks behind everyone else, which is why she is still experience "newbie" weight loss. I think it catches up with her tonight.

I too am hoping it is Tracy or Liz.

Of course, I think my sceptacism of the show is well documented. I fully believe the show is rigged. 100% believe it is rigged. I think they have rigged it in previous seasons to keep the most despicable contestants on the show. Therefore, I think Tracy stays for a long, long time.

There is a good chance Danniel (the kid) goes home tonight. He seems to have hit a brick wall. How many chances does he get?

$64,000 Dollar Question was rigged back in the 50's and it resulted in congressional hearings, jail time, destroyed careers and a congressional act making the practice illegal. It may be rigged, but it seems like a pretty big risk to take. I think it's just editing with hindsight that can make it look rigged. If something dramatic happens, they show clips that forshadow it happening. It makes it look like it was planned from the beginning.

I agree w/ everything you said. They only really difficult person that got voted off fairly early, as I recall, was Joelle - the crazy lady from last season (or was it the one before that?). Anyway, you know who I mean.

Tracy is just weird - she seems 'off' to me. Can't put my finger on it, but she just doesn't seem to be stable emotionally and she is always doing the me me me me me thing. One minute she is crying, then next she does a complete turn around and is smiling saying 'but i'm okay with that, because I'm doing the best that I can".

I agree with Daniel (the kid) hitting a wall. I hope things change for him. I really like him. He seems like such a nice kid and I'd love to see him succeed.

I'd really like it if they would do a reunion of all of the past players, not just the winners. I know they can't force the players to do that, and I bet that most don't want to because they've gained a lot (if not all) of the weight back.

Completely different set of facts. The show was "rigged" by giving one guy the answers and having him "compete" against unsuspecting others.

In this case, I believe the entire show is stagged. It is a "reality show" not a "contest" in the sense that $64k was. I think all the contestants are, to a certain extent, involved in it. It is not a conspiracy, it is merely scripted, including the results. Nothing illegal about that.

So you're saying the distinction between legal and illegal lies in how many people know about it? Reality shows that give out cash prizes look to fit the definition of a "contest". I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure what you're suggesting would be illegal.

You think this fits the definition for the reality show The Biggest Loser?

"a purportedly bona fide contest of intellectual knowledge, intellectual skill, or chance."

I do not.

Why not? They have challenges where they are asked to identify the calorie count of foods. How could that not be considered a contest of "intellectual skill"?

That is only a portion of the show, not the main objective of the game. In fact, those portions are not the "contest" portion at all.

In addition, we already know that "a week" on the show is not 7 days and that the duration of the "season" is not as portrayed on t.v.

Also, I do not think the weight loss is rigged, which is the only real "contest" portion of the show. I think the interaction and who is voted off is rigged. The choice of who to vote off is not a "contest." It is a choice made by the participants. It would not fall under the US Code provision b/c it does not involve skill or chance.

Well, if they are handing out immunity or bonus pounds as part of a challenge then clearly skill and chance become part of the "contest". It's not strictly about voting.

Why do you believe so strongly that it's rigged?

At the end, the winner is decided by weight and weight alone. The final four weigh in. The winner is based solely on weight, not any of the other stuff. So, again, it does not fall under a very narrow definition in the CFR.

First and foremost, we know definitively that the show "misrepresents" a number of things. Like I said before, a week is not 7 days. A season is not 12 weeks. So, they already raise a red flag.

Second, there are too many things that simply do not make sense. Tracy, for example, has no business still being there. Each year, the "tyrant" makes it to the end regardless of how many times they could be eliminated.

Third, it is WAY too stagged. They set up conflicts, etc. Hell, they set up mics to pick up the scheming, then broadcast it.

Fourth, it is t.v. 'Nuff said.

Actually yes. In the game show case, the other participants were not in on the fix, believing they actually had a chance. What JSA is saying about the Biggest Loser is, they are all "in on it", basically making it a scripted show despite its label as "reality" tv. I see a difference there.

They are having a reunion show on November 25th. I think I read that they will feature something like 40 past contestants, some who have kept it off and others who have not. Also, Tara from last season (runner up to the annoying Helen) ran the NYC marathon, finished in 4:23. Good for her!

She does look like that guy! Ding dong the witch is gone....

Other than that, I thought last night was really boring. Thank heaven for the DVR. I could FF thru most of it.

Tracy's 'breakthru' with Jillian was boring and predictable. Tracy didn't change over the course of the show - many of them I see a gain in confidence, more positive attitude, etc, but Tracy was just as cold and fake and self-centered as she was the first day. Even with her family, it seemed like they were all programmed to put Tracy first. I'm so glad she's gone.

Rebecca (I think that's her name, black hair) has weird hair. Has anyone else noticed that?

BOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG! I skipped most of it as well. Also, got a little ill hearing how much our "government" was concerned about the obesity epidemic. Riiiiiight ....

If you think Tracy is gone, you are fooling yourself. This show is so predictable, it is pathetic. Tracy will get back on the ranch during the "return a player" phase. Mark my words.

Rebecca has very thick hair. Not quite sure her full ethnicity, but, could be hispanic or possibly native american. Not sure. I am fairly certain she straightens her hair. That would cause it to have that odd look to it. IIRC, it is curly when she does not straighten it.

I'm only watching it in the background now. Its on but I'm not really paying attention. It is dull as toast and soooo predictable. I pretty much watch what the challenge is, the weigh in and who gets voted off, that's it.

Tracy actually looked pretty good at the end. I wonder what marathon she's running.

I'm getting really tired of what's her face--brown haired woman who is younger than me but looks damned old. How in the heck did she beat the firemen?

Her personality still comes through, which makes her repulsive regardless of weight.

I think "running" is a relative term, given that it took er 11:2x to run one mile.

When you ran that pace, you did so for far more than 1 mile. My comment was not so much directed at her pace, but, the fact that it looked like it took everything she had to run for a mere mile (at that pace).

Probably not the most appropriate place for this rant, but given the conversations in the tri forum lately, I feel the need to pull out my soapbox.

***Start of rant***

I know for me, *running* is more about the effort you are expending rather than the speed at which you are actually traveling. If you are giving it a huge amount of effort, if this effort is extremely hard to sustain and in so doing causes you alot of discomfort, I would contend you are running.

Is a 7 minute mile *running* for Ryan Hall? Not even close.
Is an 11 minute mile *running* for alot of people? Is sure as hell is.

I wish people would stop judging people by results, time, speed or whatever and realize that its about the effort given. If somebody is out there giving it their all, I respect that regardless of the speed etc.

I know this is slowtwitch and all, but when people start withholding respect based on speed, rather than effort, they are elistist assholes.

***End of Rant, move along, nothing else to see here***

Are the trainers really going overboard about the 'red line' thing tonight? good grief.

That said, I really don't want to see Shay go home.
