I can call him the dumbest motherfucker in the world--but guess what: I'm not running for president....

'the left' isn't running for president... It was a really bad gaffe.

believe it not, I wouldn't either--but you get my point, right? McCain's 'that one' comment is not assuaged by 'the left's' cracks on GWB, which is what your post implies. It came across as very unpresidential.

He isnt The President, but stoopping to the level of the left pertaining to some comments that they have made towards the POTUS, I would agree that is was not very professional to refer to a fellow senator in that way

I'm still trying to figure out what the 'left' has got to do with McCain's "That one" comment - - which by the way is a disrespectful manner to refer to anyone else, US Senator or not.

It has EVERYTHING to do with it.

You know, kind of like when I take a shit, I'm "doing what the left does to our country. I am reflecting the same values that they reflect and I should be ashamed of myself."

I think if you do a bit of research, you find some very disgusting comments against the POTUS. Regardless of your political stance, I just think it is wrong to disrespect the President. I guess you can blame that on my 27 years (and still counting) of military service

regardless of your political stance, I still fail to see the relevance of that fact with respect to McCain's comment?

I think power cranks don't improve cycling efficiency--but I don't see a need to bring it up to the OP in response to his post?? It seems equally relevant to me. seriously, what am I missing here???

That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard all day. You would hope that only somebody of merit could attain the office but sadly that has been proven to be untrue. Possession of the office does not mean a pass from criticism, especially when you've started two wars that you can't win and brought the whole country to its knees.

The current president is a c*nt.

Some comments about the current and past presidents have been over the top, but that doesn't mean we can't say when the emperor doesn't have any clothes on. BTW, what did you think of military members who drove on base during President Clinton's terms with the "He's not my president" bumper stickers? I never knew of anyone being told to take these stickers off. Of course, these were the years when I would go to "wing stand up" briefings where the wing commander would tell everyone to vote Republican. At a base wide "officers call", the ACC commander got a lot of laughs after he told an off color joke about women in fighter cockpits. My experience in the military (1972-1996) was that you supported the Republican party if you were trying to get ahead.

Jeez, how long did it take you to post after you received your Obama\Biden Campaign email or text? The NBC rep in the spin room was telling Brian Williams that was the very point the campaign was hurrying to get out to its partisans.

If you actually saw it delivered during the debate and are still insulted, you have very low threshold for insult.

You're right, Clinton was a douche.

Right again. Somalia and Kosovo were complete disasters. However, you are wrong, it was not "the whole country" who Slick Willey brought to its knees ...

Too bad that the Republican party doesn't reciprocate and support the troops back. McCain, like many Republicans, has voted numerous times against extending benefits to veterans or active military. He's no friend of the military.

He clearly can't stand being upstaged by the young senator. He wouldn't even shake Obama's hand when Obama offered it up. Instead he sorta pushed Cindy in who reluctantly shook Obama's hand. Pretty comical since a couple hours prior Cindy had called Obama's campaign the sleaziest in US history.

Re: "That One" [Mark M] [In reply to] Can't Post

The interesting thing about this now is that McCain clearly doesn't like Obama, perhaps even hates him. And frankly, its not clear why. Its not as if Obama has mistreated him or made deeply personal character attacks on him. And given that the Senate is generally considered a fairly collegial body, its even more perplexing. Ironically, its McCain who has been making fairly low-end attacks, trying to paint him as a terrorist sympathizer.

It may be that McCain needs to hate his opponent. That would be unfortunate, even in a limited political sense. Because even if its the case, McCain seems incapable of being a good enough politician as to hide his feelings about his opponent.

In the end, McCain has nobody to blame but himself for his lack of control. Ironically, while Obama likely wanted to bring McCain's temperament out, he didn't have to do much of anything - McCain did it to himself.

"That One" goes to the very heart of how McCain and the right feel about Obama. McCain views him as much less than equal to himself.

One of my Republican friends came clean to me yesterday and finally admitted that he simply does not want Obama to win because he is black. Pure and simple. All the noise about his policies, experience, wife, and everything else has nothing to do with why he is not voting for Obama. In his own words, he just does not want to see the black man get ahead. I am not shocked at this sentiment at all because I know, as well as all of you, that a huge percentage of people will not vote for Obama simply because he is black.

It doesn't surprise me that you'd hang with people like that......

Of course he does, that's politics and politicians, especially Presidential nominees usually have contempt for one another. I expect as much from either candidate, though, given that, Obama has stuck to the high ground through this thing. More power to him and I think in this climate, it will serve him well.

from the perspective of a would-be linguist, i still don't understand what the term "that one" means in the context of the debate. what did mccain mean? the body language was eminently self-evident, but those two words confuse me. what was he trying to say?

I think you're reading too much into it. Stick with the body language, it pretty much sums it up.
