Swastika Earing on Speedskater?
Can't Post
Anyone else see this? Choi Yung Kyung from Korea, #141, 1500 m, I think.
I know it has many more meaning than the most popular, but...
I rewound and checked it, it was.

Swastika is an ancient word that means Good Fortune and the Hindus believe it is a symbol of light, love and life. Hitler changed the entire meaning of it but that is just a recent development. It's an interesting concept, the power of symbols that only mean something by associating it to one man.
In the far east, it just doesn't have the same negative connotation. It would in no way have anything to do with Hitler.

Native Americans have a very similar logo as well. I wouldn't read much into it.

Thanks. I figured it was something like that, but didn't have time to research it.

I think the direction of the swastika is reversed from this picture for the Nazis or white power crowd.

you sure Chad Hedrick didnt have one too? Just watched the taped 1000 m final and I have to say I lost a lot of respect for Chad and the way he has acted and by his comments regarding Shani Davis.
On the other hand Shani....give me a break. You just won the gold and are the first African American to win an olympic winter medal, yet you have to show us the stereo-typical "black attitude" where everyone needs to "show you respect".
Well, you just lost mine too.

Yes the Red Swastika has a wide and prominent significance in the Budhist culture. It's largely about organising Budhists for social and charitable work, very much the opposite of the Nazi philosophies and practices.

I was stationed in Korea and as I traveled to my unit the first night I was amazed at the expanse of glowing red neon crosses (churches) and neon swastikas (temples) along the route across the skyline. Definitely the first question I asked when I arrived. ... also what I thought were dozens of huge aviaries along the route were enourmous golf driving ranges throughout the city.
When we in-processed new US soldiers and KATUSAs (Korean soldiers serving in US units) we did this to show them the cultural diffrences. We'd show a new American private and a new Korean private two different swastikas. American private immediately thought they were Nazi symbols but had no idea of anything else. Korean immediately thought of one of them as a Buhdist symbol and wondered why the other was backwards...Nazis never crossed their mind.
...clockwise=good (buhdist)....couter-clockwise=bad(nazi)
