To toot my own horn, I like my portfolio because it at least looks like its diversified, as opposed to amounting to a bet on red :)

Are you certain you want 50% of your 401K in any one stock never mind a US auto maker?

No I am never certain of anything. But I am fairly sure this is a good bet. Their really are only 2 issues for me 1) when is the time to buy and 2) how long until I can sell.

Lots of folks are looking at GM as a good buy right now. Yes others don't agree but when the Oil bubble bursts it will rebound. The levels its at are ridiculously low. The last time it was down here everyone was talking about the company folding and they are in much better shape now then then. Oh I might a nice bit of money on it that time also.

Were you in for GM's move today? Not in the ST Investment Challenge but for your real portfolio...up 13% today

Funny how knowing how to play F and GM has worked out so well for this game.

This is a very true statement. Not so much for me in the game, but in my real portfolio. I took the advice of the industry experts on here and bought F in the 5's and got out in the 9's. Not quite a double up, but close. Same same for GM. Got in on Dave's advice around 17. Yesterday was a very good day for me. I got out and sold some short as I think the market overdid the multi-billion dollar loss. But I really have to thank the couple of guys on here for their advice on F and GM. I withdrew a bunch of cash this morning to go put a fat down payment on a new Tundra. Yes, I will trade the stock, but not buy an F-150.

Wow. That's pretty cool. I haven't really used anything from these games in personal portfolio. Maybe I should be paying more attention....

Well, I'm not bad in math either so I can tell you it is more grim than 28-29%...at least from my perspective.

The problem is I ride GM up and Down,

Does the game take into account the tax liability created, and the true net available to invest after payment of same? Cuz that can change who the winner is.

Re: Slowtwitch Investment Challenge round 2 [kdw] [In reply to] Can't Post

I have thought about Dave the last several days watching GM. Today it hit a 30 year low. After twice the daily volume today and down 25% this month alone, I picked up a few Jan 09 12.50 calls. This may not be the bottom, but I think these will make me a few bucks.

That makes the ass whipping I've gotten from GE pale in comparison.

Re: Slowtwitch Investment Challenge round 2 [Jeremy K] [In reply to] Can't Post

in the challenge or personally? I didn't really pay attention today, but was thinking I'd pull the trigger on some more at 27ish. Of course, I bought some at 32.50 and that hasn't turned out so well. But 27/share is about a 4.6% yield on the current dividend. I don't think their business is bad enough to put the dividend in jeopardy. That would put Immelt on the street.

Re: Slowtwitch Investment Challenge round 2 [IAMike] [In reply to] Can't Post

I spend 99% of time with real money. I have gotten very busy lately and much prefer to win in my Scottrade account vs game account. I agree with your thinking. There is just something about a $270 billion dollar company at a 5 year low that says buy to me. I just dipped my toes in though.

Re: Slowtwitch Investment Challenge round 2 [Jeremy K] [In reply to] Can't Post

I was also talking real money (I own some GE in both my Roth and regular IRAs). I do have a little cash sitting in my Roth to buy more, but GE then becomes a pretty big holding for me (15% plus of my portfolio). Of course, I'd like to buy a little more at $27 and see it pop back to the low 30s in a few months and then sell some of it back off. I did that pretty successfully with some INTC a few months ago (that's why I have some cash sitting around now).

How about 15% at 17.xx Ya it does sting... Not as bad as the talk of Ch. 11 or being bought out by VW or Renault/Nissan. The money was a gamble. The job is livelyhood.

Ryan and ThinAir are two friends from my investment club. Ryan has made some good picks moving into first place a couple of times now. I keep telling him that when he learns to take his profits he will have us all beat. ;)

Hey I thought this was a ST challenge. Whats this bringing in ringers?

Well with todays action I should be back in the top 5.

Oil dropping. Now if GM and Ford respond with any kind of movement. Look out.

You all suck at this. I don't play the market, other than my 401k I have no money invested in the market. And I routinely kick all your butts. Yes I am only in 3rd right now. Give me time. Oh and how did 1 and 2 do last year?

I haven't looked for a few days. Did GM and Ford really come back, or did you change your investment style?
