Podiatry as a Profession? Can't Post

Since I have always been into sports and interested in biology I always figured I would go on to do something orthopedic surgery or something along those lines. Anyways to make a long story short I have recently become interested in podiatry. This is probably most attributed to me sustaing two ruptured achillies tendons in the last 3 years.

So, I am wondering about the profession and what anybody can tell me about it.

Anybody can get into Podiatry school. Even George was accepted to Podiatry school - Seinfeld.

That is actually pretty funny. But i have heard that the admission standards aren't as strenious as some graduate schools. However, these guys are still awsome doctors/surgeons, but there seems to be some debate as far as how this profession is going and I hoping to here from some of the more sports oriented pods that seem to post here.

I found this

http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos075.htm

My 100% biased and admittedly ignorant opinion is to suggest going into orthopedic surgery and be a "real" doctor. It would be ~3 more years of residency, but you'd make a lot more afterwards.

If operating on some old lady's bunion or trimming some 90-year old diabetic's gnarly, fungus-infested toenails is your idea of a good time--go for it.
