October Baseball -- Let's go Phillies!!! Can't Post

Phillies right on track back to the World Series after the win this afternoon. Will be getting tickets to Game 3 at Colorado. Looking forward to it. I'll go out on a limb here to say that the Phils sweep the Rockies as payback for 2007.

Cards will get by the Dodgers in either 3 or 4 games. Cards vs. the Phils for the NLCS. Two teams with good starting pitching and questions in the bullpen. Relief ?'s for the Cards and the closer situation for the Phils. Both with good hitters. Should be a fun series. It is probably the only matchup that worries me. Could come down to who just has more momentum going. Home field would go to St. Louis, and maybe that's the decider. Gotta believe though ... so it's Phillies in 6.

Yankees are currently up 3- 2 over the Twins in the bottom of the 5th. I liked Kirby Puckett when I was growing up, but ultimately, I think the machine will keep rolling. Yankees in 4.

Time for the Haloes to get off the schnide against Boston. Anaheim over Boston in 5.

Looking at the series between NYY and the Angels this season, it was pretty even. Yanks go through in 6 games though.

Phillies vs. Yankees for the 2009 World Series. Now with the home field advantage being determined by the all-star game (stupidest idea going in sports ever since the MLS finally abandoned that ridiculous OT shootout bullshit), that would go to the Yanks. Yet, that's still fair, because home field advantage would still go to the Yanks based on their wins and record in the absence of the all-star game result.

So, many probably would assume that the championship goes back to the Bronx. No. Wrong. The new Yankee Stadium opened the season with a loss, and it will end with a loss. Phils in 7. This is like the Patriots in 2007. They had that glorious season, and everyone believed they were destined to win the Super Bowl. Ah ah aaaahhh! It's time for a World Series repeat champion first. When was the last time that happened? The Yankees from 1998 to 2000. Fate says so!

I just don't know if I'll be able to make it to the parade this year though. :-/

(OK -- make that 6 - 2 in favor of the Yankees, bottom 5. And, YES, OF COURSE, I'm biased! Duh!)

What say ye?

I'm going to the game tomorrow! It's times like these I miss Martin C. If he's reading I'd like to point out that the last time the Phillies were in the playoffs and he was posting, they won the World Series. It's pretty selfish of him to not post and potentially jinx another championship.

Bring warm clothes. Raining here now, supposed to turn into snow, and freakin' cold when I ran into work this morning. 'Course you'll have a toasty mug of Coors Light to keep you warm.

I love this time of year for watching baseball. Twins-Tigers game the other night was one of the best games I've seen in a long time, edge of the seat viewing from the 7th inning on to the end.

I was in the Philly area last week for work and went to the game last Tuesday night (the night before they clinched), it was already a playoff-like atmosphere with a fired-up crowd waving the towels and making a ton of noise all night. Citizens Bank Ballpark is an awesome place to see a game.

Will be up late tonight and tomorrow night watching the Sox. I'm a little concerned about their starting pitching where Beckett and Buchholz had some tough starts down the stretch, plus where Beckett has been bothered by back spasms of late. Their bullpen has been solid all year.

Stupid DVR recorded up to the middle of 9th tonight . . . I guess it doesn't matter, since the Phils lost, but can't they make those things smarter?!

Phillies/Yankees is something we've wanted for a long, long time.

It would mean a whole lot to Philadelphia to get that shot.

Since my son played for the Rockies during his Little League Spring season and is currently playing for the Phillies in Fall Ball, he is VERY conflicted :)

2 out, 9th inning double for 2 RBIs by Ryan Howard to tie!

Oh, the sweetness.

Unbelievable. I turned my attention away with two out in the top of the ninth to take my son to batting practice thinking this is going down to a 5th game...and THIS happened.

I was at the game yesterday. 3rd base line, 4 rows from the field -- great seats! What a game! It was gut wrenching to watch them score 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th, but I had a good feeling since we had the top of the order coming up.

A guy behind me, who thought he was being chummy, patted me on the back and said, "Sorry about that; game over!" To which I indignantly replied, "The game's not over, bud." And, he -- believing that he was sneaky and that I didn't hear -- said, "Yes it is."

The stadium went almost dead quiet when Howard hit that double and then moans and crying when Werth slapped it into centerfield. God, the gratification!!! Ha!

Good series. Kudos to the Rockies. Bring on the Dodgers!!!

How about Dexter Fowler doing an Edwin Moses over Chase Utley? I've never seen that before. Very entertaining game to watch, especially the last two innings.

Dude makes a catch in left field that is about the hardest play to make in baseball. Good lord my eyeballs bounce just thinking about it.

Yeah, I think it caught Utley by surprise and lead to him double clutching the ball in his glove a little bit and then the toss being a bit wide of the mark.

I liked the double switch that brought Francisco into left field. That diving catch would have never been made by Ibanez, and it could have been more runs scored that inning. Impressive that it happened just after coming into the game without really any warm up or being in the flow of the game. Just comes in and makes a play.

After watching ESPN and listening to ESPN Radio the Dodgers I have to wonder why the Dodgers should even show up, according to them they have no chance of winning...

Which team has had problems closing games out in the 9th?

Which team has the most come from behind/9th inning wins this season?

Which team has the most come from behind/9th inning wins this season?

-The team whose starting pitching left them behind in the first place.

Coming from behind is a bad thing. One thing that gets lost as Lidge's regular season blown saves are discussed; the Phillies were ahead in all those games. Thats a good thing. A VERY good thing. If he converts five of those 11 blown saves the Phillies have the best record in the NL.

Coming from behind is bad. Leading into the ninth is good. I predict another Dodger exit.
