Obama fans are OK with this?
Can't Post
I know when I mention that I think killers ( the ones caught red handed) of children should die slow painful deaths after quick trials I get flamed to high heaven so I was wondering how Obama fans feel about these comments.
Obama: Professed 9/11 mastermind will be convicted
President Barack Obama predicted that professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be convicted and executed as Attorney General Eric Holder proclaimed: "Failure is not an option."
In one of a series of TV interviews during his trip to Asia, Obama said those offended by the legal privileges given to Mohammed by virtue of getting a civilian trial rather than a military tribunal won't find it "offensive at all when he's convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him."
Obama quickly added that he did not mean to suggest he was prejudging the outcome of Mohammed's trial. "I'm not going to be in that courtroom," he said. "That's the job of the prosecutors, the judge and the jury."
Asked what might happen if the suspects are acquitted, Holder replied: "Failure is not an option. These are cases that have to be won. I don't expect that we will have a contrary result."
This ones a bonus. If we are at war why are we taking this to civilian courts where monkey business will win the day.
"
We are at war, and we will use every instrument of national power — civilian, military, law enforcement, intelligence, diplomatic and others — to win," Holder said.

Yeah, that'll be early next year won't it? Won't have to wait at all for that to happen.

I can only say....what a cluster fuck.
If he gets convicted the left will scream the virtues of the system and glory of Obama's decisions. The right will claim it was rigged and it was not a fair trial and the outcome was predetermined. If he doesn't get convicted the left will claim the system worked and scream the virtues of the system, the right will point to the mismatch of the civil system with a military criminal and the failing of Obama's decision.
In the end we'll never know the truth...as usual and both sides will be claiming victory...again as usual.

I'm pretty sure that if he gets convicted the right won't scream about anything other than how terrible it is that the civilian justice system can't execute him twice. Hard to see them defending a convicted terrorist.

I disagree with Obama about the death penalty, even for KSM (although there is no person more deserving). There, that wasn't too hard. I didn't realistically expect anything else given the singular importance of his crime, and the fact that every day people are sentenced to die in captial cases. Did you expect anything different? Of course not.

hijacking myself here.....
I am all for the death penalty but I think lethal injection is far too "humane"
I was watching someone earlier who said he doesnt want him to get it for those exact reasons. He wants him to be locked in a cell alone so his mind gets so bad that it becomes his punishment. Solitary, in a cell except for once every 3 days for an hour when they can go outside. Not that I havent thought about this being much more "fun" for my favorite terrorists but I sort of like the idea of him rotting since we cant punish him the way he deserves.

True, it's unsatisfying to spend a lot of time and effort convicting and executing people that want to be martyred.

The Bush Admin tried for 6.5 years to bring this to trial - there must be a reason why neither admin was able to deliver a military tribunal with sufficient muster.

Not an Obama supporter.
But I find nothing wrong with either what he or Holder said.
Obviously they expect him to be convicted. Prosecutors talk like this all the time.

I heard it on NPR while driving home and could not believe he said that! Presumed guilt was not what our judicial system is based on...why doesn't he just tie him to the chair tomorrow? As the POTUS, it sounds cheap before the trial, to me anyway. A very strange moment I thought...

The judiciary doesn't report to the administrative branch, but the AG does. Since the administrative branch is the prosecution in this case, Obama's comments are not totally out of line.

I understand, and thank you for the clarification, it just seems if you want the world to think KSM is getting the fair trial, maybe some restraint may be in order.
