Obama--Wrong on Iraq surge and wrong on Afghanistan surge? Can't Post

Obama was convinced the surge in Iraq wouldn't work, and even now won't admit it did. But, oddly, he seems equally convinced a surge in Afghanistan will work. A lot of people are arguing that Iraq and Afghanistan are different wars and what worked in Iraq may not work in Afghanistan, and may even make the situation worse.

As for me, I don't pretend to have the right answer. But, I know that as long as there is an Al Qaeda/Taliban safe haven in Pakistan, there will be Al Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan.

You are right in that the surge of troop strength alone in Iraq was not what turned the tide--it was the strategy that the troop surge allowed to be implemented that really turned the tide.

As far as invading Pakistan or an "incursion" into Pakistan (which Obama also said once that he would do), I'm not sure that is a viable option--right now. I think we need to give the new Pak government a chance to get their house in order.
