Next up, Obama/Khalidi Can't Post

This relationship will probably get new scrutiny in the next couple of weeks:

"A special tribute came from Khalidi's friend and frequent dinner companion, the young state Sen. Barack Obama. Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking."

You mean the Rashid Khalidi, professor at Columbia, who was a spokesman for the PLO back when they weren't pretending to NOT be a terrorist organization? That Khalidi? Funny you should bring him up!

Another Close Terrorist Friend of Obama's: A Former PLO Spokesman

More details here.

Barack Obama's claim? "His kids go to the same school my kids go to."

Seriously? Fucking again? Another guy from the neighborhood?

You cannot be seeerious, Johnny Mac screamed in vain.

And they are indeed friends -- the Obamas were "frequent" dinner guests of the Khalidis.

Really Kahuna? You're really posting from the blog of an evangelical conservative radio host as an unbiased or objective source?

Come on, you can do better,....maybe.

This is one of my biggest problems with Obama personally. He seems to be repeatedly lying to cover up these associations. I would much prefer that he come out and make the case for exactly the snippet I posted above, that he was challenged in his thinking and biases, and that THAT was what made these valuable associations. I can appreciate that...hell, I get "Revolution" The newspaper of the Communist party in America, for similar reasons. It looks a little worse for Obama, as he was director of the Woods Fund in a couple of years they funded the work of the AAAN. (a pro Palestinian group run by Khalidi's wife). At any rate, I'd like to see an honest response from Barack, even if we have to understand some "nuance" to get it.

Well, if Sen Obama can be tied to this terrorist, then I guess so can Pres Bush. Although he may not have had dinner with Khalili, his administration apparently helped fund one of his foundations.

You're not serious? How to deal with the abuse that occurs after policy decisions are made is pretty much another world. There's a difference between continuing a policy as GWB did, and having close personal relationships with these guys. I'm trying to give Obama the benefit of the doubt here.

Re: Next up, Obama/Khalidi [dave_w] [In reply to] Can't Post

do you honestly expect a truthful, nuanced response to this when there are people at McCain rallies yelling 'kill him' and 'terrorists'? I think that's disingenuous on your part. These are the political times in which we live.

I think you're left with believing his stated positions, and looking at his past actions (which are definitely sparse--he's been running for president for 6 years...).

I'd like to see him answer the question in the exact why which you described--but that's not an acceptable response. It'll turn into a sound bite that he hates America.

I swear the Republicans might as well just start playing the Manchurian Candidate at it's rallies. This seems to be the only strategy left........

Please. So it's not ok to move in circles with guys who have different ideas than you, but it is ok to fund their organizations? How does that work?

Re: Next up, Obama/Khalidi [dave_w] [In reply to] Can't Post

"While teaching at the University of Chicago, Khalidi and his wife lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood near the Obamas. The families became friends and dinner companions."

Quite the social scene in that Hyde Park. I can picture it now: (Barack, honey, we're having the Ayers, the Wrights and Fr. Phegler over on Wednesday for dinner, and then we're going to a party a the Khalidi's on Saturday night. Please get home early for dinner on Wednesday."

Oh, and then there is this nastly little problem "hiding" in the wings:

One Jewish leader said he viewed Obama's outreach to Palestinian activists, such as Said, in the light of his relationship to Wright.

"In the context of spending 20 years in a church where now it is clear the anti-Israel rhetoric was there, was repeated, . . . that's what makes his presence at an Arab American event with a Said a greater concern," said Abraham H. Foxman, national director for the Anti-Defamation League.
