New Navy uniforms? Mixed reviews

As much as I hated dungarees, I can honestly say that this is the lamest replacement ever. What's the freakin' obsession with digital camo?

seascape camo, glad my dad has passed and not been subjected to this travesty, what's with camo, is it the new flag lapel pin? can there be any doubt that the end of the world is upon us??? and it's taking forever!

The Air Force also changed their BDUs from the Cold War jungle style to a desert color Airmen Battle Dress Uniform.
I can see the jokes coming now like, "Why would they need that on the golf course?" I will have you know that I was in the AF for 8 years and didn't spend one day on the golf course.

Looks like a Z-gram.At least they did'nt kill the crackerjack like Zumwalt did.Those BDU are dumb looking .I wonder if they got rid of coveralls? That was about the only thing I wore.Bilge diving and cleaning steam tubes those BDU would not work.It is starting to look like a uniform melting pot for the branches,stop it!

I am in the navy. We are just getting rid of our working whites and working blues in exchange for a year round working uniform which is the khaki shirt with black pants. The BDUs will replace utilities. But when underway on a ship we will still wear coveralls. we will still wear the normal dress whites and dress blues.

The entire "digital camouflage" evolution of modern military uniforms is a curiosity. Tests have shown that digital patterns such as CADPAT, MARPAT and ACU are largely ineffective in comparison to the Crye Precision Mutli-Cam pattern. Somewhat oddly, Crye Precision hasn't been successful in selling DOD on the Multi-Cam pattern despite the fact that our best special operations teams in all branches are
buying
multicam BDU's with their own money to use operationally.
It's kind of a hard and fast rule that the military picks uniforms not entirely on function but also on some odd attachment to fashion. Word on the street is that the "digital camouflage" uniforms were an attempt to placate and appeal to a younger demographic whose primary exposure to the miliary didn't come from John Wayne in "The Green Berets" but from Sam Fisher in "Splinter Cell" or from playing "Call of Duty".
At any rate, it is good to seeing the Navy moving forward in uniform develoment. At least the pattern of the new Army ACU is an improvement over old woodland style BDU's that had nasty collars, useless pockets, got wet and stayed wet and were horribly hot in a jungle and desert environment.
I wager the new uniform will be a hit with the brown water Navy and universally shunned by "big" Navy.

The final iteration of BDU's wasn't bad. They no longer had the 70's collars, and the rip-stop seemed to dry out OK- I never wore winter weights for that reason. Once a set had been turned into some cook whites from overuse, and the crotch repaired w/ denal floss (crotch always blew out- dental floss was the best fix- it never frays), they were pretty comfortable.
The new boots are good- I don't have to pay to have them re-soled right off the bat. I DO miss my green jungle boots. Only real gripe w/ the new ones is they hold foot stink (I often forego socks).
I've heard rumors that the ACU's may go away in a few years. Good- they wear like shit and velcro is retarded.

yeah I agree about the khakis for the chiefs, but I work in a hospital and I get really tired of having to wash my white uniform everyday when i get home.
