Need music ideas tonight. Can't Post

I'm getting underway for about a montha dn I haven't put anything new on my iPod for awhile. Limited internet on the ship means no new music for the next month, so, given that, what should I download tonight so I make sure I have good music to last until I get back?

Throw out suggestions, and I'll let you know if I've already got it.

"what do you like/dislike?"

Like: Almost everything. Here's a sampling of who I've got on my iPod. I'll just take every 5th or 10th band alphabetically:

ABBA
Alice in Chains
Aqua
Barenaked ladies
Beatles
Black Crowes
Buddy Holly
Chicago
Chris Issak
Cornershop
David Bowie
David Lee Roth
De La Soul
Dido
Elastica
Enya
Eric Clapton
Flight of the Conchords
Fratellis
Gipsy Kings
Guns N Roses
Jesus Jones
Joe Satriani

That takes us through "J" and constitutes about every 10th artist or so.

I don't really listen to much rap or metal, with a few exceptions.

Hmmm....

How about some jazz? Try just about anything from Miles Davis, but especially "Kind of Blue", or "Miles Smiles", or "The Birth of the Cool". Dave Brubeck Quartet is also good. For smooth jazz, Spyro Gyra is great, Peter White, etc.

Classical? I would put on some classical while trying to fall asleep in my tent at Thumrait...very relaxing.

"Classical?"

I've got some. Prokofiev, Mozart, a good bit of classical guitar, etc.

Maybe I'll try some jazz. I've got a lot of jazz and blues guitar, but not much else in that genre.

I have some Lyle Lovett. His music is quirky and meaningful. It also happens to be really good. His is a mix of country, western, and blues.

Re: Need music ideas tonight. [Al P Duez] [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, I appreciate all the responses, but I have one night to download some stuff, and I also have other things to do like, you know, get a ship ready to get underway for a month, so let's narrow down the lists a little.

I'd say my favorite genre is probably alternative (either new wavey/geek rock stuff like XTC, TMBG, Cure, Echo, etc, or some newer stuff like Vampire Weekend, Death Cab, Fratellis, etc)

Some really good suggestions though. I already have pretty much everything by BoDeans, Shins, and a couple of others I saw listed. I was browsing iTunes and was also surprised to see a "Best of" albums for two of my favorites, Material Issue and Dillon Fence.

Not sure if you're familiar with Iron & Wine, but their (his) recent album - The Shepherd's Dog - is excellent. Given your apparent taste in music, I think you'll enjoy it.

Ok, I've gotta call it a night. I settled on just a few.

I got Iron and Wine, Wilco, a Stevie Wonder compilation, and a couple others.

Thanks for the suggestions.

What coast are you setting off from, what kind of ship is it, where are you going, and what are you going to be doing?

If you're Gilligan, who is the skipper, the professor, etc?

Just kidding, I'm geniunely interested. Besides, what is the LR going to do without you for a month? We're going to have to shut down.
