My new house was on national news...for real...weird...

This home somehow was on the news, I was told today by the agent. We had already put in an offer that was taken - but based on inspection. Next thing we know the home is on the Today Show and folks are talking about it nation wide. It is the third home in the segment and we got it for MUCH less than the asking price (pending inspection) - oh, and that is not our furniture. What is funny is how WRONG they got it, the master is OK, the bathrooms are all TINY and we are first going to kill a bedroom to expand the master bath/laundry room. The "breakfast" area is so small that with four chairs you need stick people to come and eat...all fixable. The yard...shocking with 'wild' fox and squirrel all over.

The home is a 1927 'Barloga' who was famous local architect. All in all, we STOLE the home (pending inspection) at about half what the prior owners paid.

Love the back (living?)room with all of the windows. Front stockwerk looks really sharp too.

That room is only 8' wide...that will be the new 'bike room'....not sure where the TV show got "Huge Rooms"...it is long though

That's a really beautiful house. It always amazes me what houses go for in different parts of the country. Out here on the front range .... that listing price would get you .... significantly less. And, a house like that would cost ... way, way more.

Nice house but why do you want to continue to live in Rockford?
Actually and sadly, Rockford is nicer than 95 pct of the rest of Illinois and South central Wisco.

I hear ya. I found the home that I love, only it's 90 min away from work. I personnally wouldn't mind the commute, the price is awesome for what you get. I have about a 2% chance of getting my wife to even look at it though... :(

& I have the same "painting" in my Kitchen (Parapluie in I guess familly room).
even here in Ottawa it would cost a lot more and depending the neighborhood it would cost even more.

You should be able to get the real estate taxes reduced significantly as well. I have to figure that the real estate taxes on that house were $10-12K if not more.
You may even be able to make a little money on the work you will do to reduce the real estate taxes. The prorations on the closing statement will be at today's tax rates. You won't pay those real estate taxes until next year, and by then you should have the taxes reduced if you are lucky.

See I would have figured that if your house was on the national news, the reporter would begin with " ...neighbours described him as a nice guy who kind of kept to himself ... " and continue with "... shallow graves ... off his meds ... recently quoted in the NYT ..."
