Movie Review: Wall-E Can't Post

Even though I was tired and jetlagged, I really enjoyed it. I also believe it is appropriate for all ages.

Wall-E pretty much lives up the the hype. Every bit as brilliant and detailed and rich as Ratatouille and Finding Nemo, but with very little dialogue, which is kind of irritating but also sort of fun.

WallE is a leftover robot left in a huge city on an earth so polluted that humans have left. His only friend is a cockroach. He collects and organizes junk and piles garbage into neat stacks. He also watches old movies, and his favorite is some old musical (I don't know what one, I'll have to look it up. Or maybe it was made up). On earth, the only real dialogue comes from old recordings and movies as WallE and the cockroach and his guest barely speak, just hoot and whistle.

The abandoned earth the animators envision is amazing and scary. Its hazy and absolutely stacked full of human detritus. Every so often a crazy dust storm blows in and WallE has to duck for cover.

One day a gleaming ship deposits a shiny little robot probe. WallE is first frightened and awed, then eventually falls in love. The two robots get to know each other and WallE eventually follows Eve, the probe, into her amazing space station home space, which is also richly envisioned, and totally different from earth. This is where we finally see what has become of humanity, and this is both funny and sad.

In our over-sensitive age, I am sure certain conservative types are saying the movie is bad as its brainwashing children that humans could possibly foul up the earth so terribly. It also takes a shot at overconsumption and consumerism. I am also certain some fat people are offended as well (You'll see why). Those complaints are idiotic, in my opinion, but I am sure they are out there.

Wall-E is worth checking out on the big screen, and just about anyone of any age would enjoy it. Its not quite as amazing as Ratatouille or Nemo, but a heck of a lot better than the many lame, less-than-thoughtful, animated movies with too much banter like Ice Age.

wall-e definitely is way up there in terms of pixar movies, very, very, very highly recommended and in my opinion much better than Nemo (unless you are a kid) and pretty close to Ratatouille (which was definitely amazing).

Smarter than Nemo, yes. Wall-E definitely has more for adults. Gotta damit that Nemo and Toy Story are both excellent, groundbreaking films.

Thanks for the review- my little girl was interested after seeing the preview at Kung Fu Panda. We'll be seeing it over the long weekend, as it sounds pretty good.

How old is your little girl, and how did she react to Kung Fu Panda? My son will be 3 next month, and loves the Pixar CARS movie. Based on that, I decided to take him to see Wall E this past week as his very first movie theatre experience. He liked it, though I'm sure he didn't get a lot of the storyline. What are your thoughts about Kung Fu Panda? Too violent?

By the way, here is a great website I found that rates movies based on suitability for children: http://www.kids-in-mind.com/

not violent, just "the big fight" at the end, and that's very cartoonish. Enjoyable for kids and parents. Jack Black doing a kids movie was just funny to me- I kept hearing the most obscene stuff he's done playing in the back of my head.

Thanks for the site, btw.

" his favorite is some old musical (I don't know what one, I'll have to look it up. Or maybe it was made up)."

It's the movie version of Hello Dolly.

My 4 year old niece and I very much liked the movie. Now she is walking around saying, "Wall-E...?" --- "Eeeeeva...?" all day long. My sister is going nuts.

OK, we saw it today. What happens to the people had me laughing my ass off. There were some prime examples in the theatre- I wonder what they felt/thought about it?

I like the bunny rabbit cartoon a lot better than the movie. Would've liked more rabbit, less robot.

We've got a cool theater here called Reel Pizza; they've got couches instead of normal seats, and you can order dinner while you watch the movie. So it was a good evening out.
