All BS aside, I drive an MDX (albeit the previous generation, an '01). In fact, I helped launch the '07 Acura MDX, and myself and everyone I worked with always felt the new grill went a long way to giving it a more masculine appearance. Regarding the comment it's just a gussied-up Pilot -- it's not. I've seen the lines on which they're made, and there's a big difference (though I've always liked the Pilot, too).
While the slightly-smaller RDX might be perceived as a chick car, I don't thing the MDX is. It is by no means a truck, in that it's built on a unibody frame. However, none of the vehicles you've identified are going to be pulling stumps anytime soon. And it's going to be great on the road, with enough off-road capability to give you confidence. It's a luxury vehicle, but at the lower price range of the vehicles you've identified. And the maintenance in the long-haul will be less than the European brands you identify.
I've had mine for almost 5 years, and literally driven it across the continent (with three bikes on it and a dog inside, no less). More races than I can count, too. Tons of storage.
From a corporate standpoint, it strikes a good balance and sends a good message if you're climbing the corporate ladder: enough cache that it doesn't look out of place in the executive parking lot, but also sensible enough that it doesn't appear ostentatious.

I really like the way Audis look and perform, but have you ever looked at their resale value? They plummet very quickly. You can get a low mileage, late model sedan in the teens routinely.
That tells me that they aren't the most reliable long term. Honda/Acura on the other hand are bomb proof.

All the BS aside, Honda styling really sucks. The new TL is just plain fugly. Same with the Accord and Pilot. I don't think the Pilot has ever been to styling school ever. It amazes me on how many BMW styling elements the Accord tried to incorporate with no success.
But Hondas are reliable and the MDX is a chick car.

Well, styling is a subjective thing. I agree the TL is a disaster -- that front grill is a travesty, which is a shame because the TL is a GREAT vehicle. My old man has owned two and when the last one was stolen the only reason he didn't get another was, yup, the grill. The Accord is okay (coupe looks good), and frankly I've always likes the Pilot, even the redesign. I even dig the Ridgeline.
Damn, guess my MDX makes me a chick. Oh well.

If you worry if your ride is a "chick car" then you are a chick and should just drive a pink Miyata.

I told my husband about your thread and he said (keep in mind, he drove the MDX for years) that the MDX is kind of a chick car, meaning only that he sees a lot of women driving them. I still don't view it as a chick car, but what do I know . . . .:)
Oh, and to all those folks that can't stand the thought of someone driving luxury, let me tell you, there is a difference and I love the difference. We're a Lexus family -- RX330 and GS350 -- and I just love both of those cars (my RX has almost 130,000 miles on it). My husband and I worked very, very hard for what we have. We've driven enough pieces of sh*t to appreciate what luxury offers. So enjoy whatever you get. You've earned it.

I am rising in my company and hoping to make executive ranks within the next year.
Everybody in these ranks drive luxury vehicles and, in the same vein of "dress for the position you want, not the one you have", I want to go luxury.
I made equity partner in my firm a couple years ago. All the other equity partners drive luxury vehicles. I bought a Toyota FJ Cruiser just to scare the shit of out them. I also started wearing short sleeve shirts so they could finally see my tatts. So, that's another way to go. ;-p
But, hey, to each his own, I guess ...
Justice Clarence Thomas swore me in to federal court in 1997 and invited me and my (then) girlfriend into his chambers to chat for about 90 minutes or so. He told us how when he first got on the bench, he went out an bought a Corvette ZR1. He replaced with exhaust system with the loudest one he could find and used to pull up next to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (whom he referred to as "Ruthy") and revved it up b/c it drove her nuts. He could not stand all the old fuddy-duddy luxury cars they drove.

All I am saying is that if you rock what you like then it becomes the bad assness of slmcknight not what other people think.
Give me a pink Miyata and it's the coolest car in the world because I rock it.

Your story is anachronistic. Thomas was nominated by Bush 41 in 1991, while Ginsberg didn't join the Supreme Court until two years later.

I love the 4Runner. I had a '97 and loved it. I love the rolldown window in the back and the size is perfect. Unfortunately, its not luxury.
You've gotta be kidding me. Nothing wrong with buying a luxury car if you have the money.
If I were senior partner I'd snicker behind the backs of the young fools--who I know aren't making bank--buying cars that are financially ill-advised. I guess if they're style over substance kind of folks maybe they'll be impressed.

Gotta agree with you ... which is why I asked in the first place. It seems a little shallow to be that concerned with what you drive and how others perceive you. At the end of the day, it simply gets you from A to B and you cannot take it with you.
