Lost Baggage - Need Advice Can't Post

I flew with Finnair to Helsinki but my luggage didn't arrive with the same flight. I filed a report with their luggage service in the airport and they me gave a "survival kit" which basically had a pair of socks, an all white T-shirt, a tooth brush and some other maintenance junk. It has been 3 days, since my arrival and as of yet they haven't delivered my suitcase. They don't even know where it is now as the Helsinki folks keep saying that it is in Toronto and in Toronto they say that they have already sent it over. They told me that they would reimburse 70Euros for whatever I need to buy, and I bought a pair of underwear and a T-shirt for 55Euros and I will have to literally use the remaining to do a laundry in the hotel.

I missed the formal banquet event of the conference I am attending because of not having my suit with me:(
It's been extremely frustraing to be in this situation, but I am getting more panicked because by the looks of it, my suitcase will be declared lost eventually. I need some advice about how to deal with this, and the best way to reimburse for my possible losses.

hmm, well being 'delayed' and 'lost' are two different things to the airlines. does finair have an online bag tracking system so you can see where your bag is?

you need to figure out when your bag is going to arrive at the airport and when it will arive at your house/hotel. if its too late and you're flying back home, then they need to figure out how long it will take to get there. then you need to ask them at what date and time if you don't have your bag it will be declared lost. get a firm date from someone or they'll drag you on forever.

basically you're screwed. when it comes to the reimbursement they will shaft you, or try to. they will most likely deduct that 70 euro they gave you from what they reimburse you for because those clothes now have 'lasting value' be nice, be polite as possible, but demand the full amount of value in your luggage. be fair to them and hopefully they will be fair back. dont try and itemize cheap toiletries and little items, stick to the big items.

if you're a frequent flyer you'll get better treatment. you can also send a letter to general customer service to try and get some sort of voucher for the overall inconvenience and even say that a primary point of the $$ spent for travel was to go to the formal banquet, which you couldnt go to, etc. etc.
