Data point on global temperatures Can't Post

This one surprised me a bit, as we've seen posted a number of times how the very cold winter brought us to where we were 30 years ago temperature-wise.

But even with that cold winter included, 2008 is so far the 9th warmest year to date on a global basis.

I would be interested in learning more about the sea ice item on the page. Northern sea ice is on a significant downward trend, while southern sea ice seems to be on a slightly upward trend. Just curious what the thoughts are on that topic. Again, that's sea ice, not glaciers.

I looked and couldn't find it. If this is the 9th warmest on record, what years were numbers 1-8?

Good question. I don't have that list but I'm sure someone does. It's easier to find full year records rather than first 6 months.

This was more about my surprise that we are still up there in temperature despite all we've heard in the room about how cold the winter was.
