I lifted weights next to her about five years ago, and she had the most amazing shoulders I've ever seen - the drop from shoulders to waist was simply ridiculous.

Yeah she's led a little bit of a charmed life.
On the other hand, she could have just married wealthy and been a lady who lunches instead of a world-class athlete who obviously loves competing into her 40s. That's probably better than being a professional shopper.

She can kick all our asses in the swim, that's for certain. Good for her. Honestly, when I was a teenager, it was thought that you were pretty much done in sport (and rock-and-roll ;-) at 30 years old.

The funny thing is that until you stand next to someone like that, you don't realize how the picture doesn't do her justice.
The other funny thing is that last week I was lifting and I was sharing the rack with this woman named Ilaria Montagnani, who is a fairly well-known fitness instructor with her own little discipline called Powerstrike. She's about 40, 5'7" and 140 lbs of pure muscle. I was doing shrugs and upright rows while she would squat 155 and then immediately run off 12 full pullups for every set I did. That was emasculating. I thought she was the scariest fit woman I've worked out with. I forgot about Dara.

Actually that is sort of an interesting question - just watching the Olympic trials you don't really see female swimmers cut like Dara, so I wonder what is actually better from a hydro standpoint.
On the other hand, most of it will be under a LZR suit, but her arms will still be out there.

Now, now Cynical Guy! I think there was something to the effect that she has been testing monthly for the last few years for just such comments. Maybe the hardcore swimming types will chime in with the details.

Maybe she should step down so some younger person, not as privileged can have a dream come true and go to the Olympics. Or maybe she should foot the bill for someone else. Or maybe I'm just naive. And all these athletes have this money.

Yeah I noticed that during the trials yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if it had a lot to do with age, muscle maturity, etc. The high school girls swimming looked bulkier.

Why should she? She worked her ass off to make money and good for her for still having the drive to compete. It's not like you can just buy your way into the Olympics.

I'm certain that she has made a ton of money on her own, but she was born into a life of privelge and married well. Nothing wrong with either of those things, but I doubt that she'd be forking over 100K+ in training expenses just with the money she's made .
