Anyone have some good insights, best practices or thoughts to share about a company website?
Can't Post
Don't want to share my employer's website, but was hoping people could share some thoughts on what they consider to be good ("best practice") content to have on a site.
We're a services company, so we're not selling a product (which obviously is a whole 'nother thing).
We're re-looking at our site (which was hastily thrown up when we first started, and hasn't changed much since), but the review is being done by someone without much experience or knowledge (but has the time...).
Homepage - obviously have to have, but what do we want here?
About us - seems standard, but what goes within? Mission, vision, values? All seems very "BS" to me
Job openings - this is where 99.9% of the people go on our site, we'll obviously keep this
Other?
We're somewhat struggling with making the site "interesting", "unique", and/or "special"; while also conforming to various industry standards. Some want the site to have a little personality, others want it to be staid and professional (I probably don't fit into the group you'd think I do).
I'm trying to approach it from both the potential/current client perspective, and potential employee perspective. Those are the two main user groups we can think of coming to the site.
Any thoughts or past experiences are appreciated.

I kind of like the company history part and maybe info on the key employees.
I like to look at sample of what you do, industry info, free value-added stuff, maybe a newsletter.
