Anybody remeber Kelo? Nevermind ... Can't Post

I despised the decision in Kelo when it came down. Now it appears that Pfizer is not going to develop the land. Too bad the houses are torn down.

Folly.

Blame Anthony Kennedy for that decision. I thought it was so that a developer could build new condos and a community that would've returned greater taxes to the city than what it was getting from the homes in those neighborhoods at the time?

I think Pfizer was involved in the development but maybe I am wrong. Either way. Horrible situation.

I always like it when we get an Emily Litella "NEVER MIND!" moment like this.

Pfizer is now deciding what to do with its giant New London offices, and will consider selling it, leasing it and other options, a company spokeswoman said.

I got an idea, how about public housing!

To this day I don't think I've read a worse SC decision. To the best of my understanding after multiple readings, eminent domain now covers non-harmful prior use when the public interest in mind is a larger tax base. What land doesn't have another use that could create a larger tax base? I'm not a Scalia/Thomas lackey, but they nailed this one in the dissent.

Touche. But you could always build a bigger casino!

The point is, Kelo is a frightening decision and one in which the outrage was pretty much justified imo.

Dam!

I don't disagree at all, just that I lost my outrage a couple decades ago. In my somewhat...ok, very jaded eyes, we have "outrageous" decisions being implemented on a daily basis. This was just another brick knocked out of the foundation of a crumbling system. Yet another decision to allow government "Free reign".

In my best Dennis Green voice, "We let 'em off the hook."

This Kelo follow up barely made a splash of any kind in the news. The supreme court decision was obviously frightening, but this final development with Pfizer bailing, there ought to be some crucifixions of the politicians involved in backing the New London Development Authority. I read the book on the case (Little Pink House? I don't remember), but what a bunch of douches. I would actually pay for pay-per-view to watch these people be interviewed about this latest development and why they deserved salaries to oversee this total train wreck.

Maybe we'll get lucky and 60 minutes or someone will a follow-up story.
